Tesla seeks an IT Infrastructure Engineer in Freiburg, Germany, specializing in network and IT manufacturing engineering. Responsibilities include designing and implementing networking solutions, providing tier-2 support, monitoring network services, ensuring minimal IT downtime for manufacturing, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, improving manufacturing security, and collaborating with various teams. The role requires experience in IP networking, multi-vendor switching technologies (Juniper, Cisco), and troubleshooting various hardware (printers, scanners, etc.). The engineer will also be responsible for documentation, root cause analysis, and automation scripting.
Must have:
  • 3+ years in desktop support/sysadmin
  • Hardware troubleshooting (Windows)
  • Network troubleshooting (DHCP, DNS)
  • IP networking, L2/L3 protocols
  • Multi-vendor switching (Juniper, Cisco)
  • Excellent German and English
Good to have:
  • Aruba wireless solutions
  • Palo Alto/Juniper firewalls
  • Wireshark, SNMP, NetFlow
  • Scripting for automation
  • Experience with thermal printers, barcode scanners

Tesla is currently seeking an IT infrastructure Engineer to join our team in Freiburg, Germany, and specialize in network and IT manufacturing engineering in a global enterprise environment. This role will provide network and IT manufacturing engineering, implementation, analytical, and operational support, primarily at manufacturing facilities. The engineer will ensure compliance to established system architecture, regulations and security policies, follow standards and best practices, and author and maintain support documentation.

What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with staff network engineers & manufacturing controls engineers on design and initiatives
  • Function as a tier-2 escalation point. Gather requirements, analyze and propose solutions to networking needs
  • Provision, implement, test, validate and maintain networking services per solution design
  • Monitor, analyze and report network services metrics and document network knowledge base and operational runbooks
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends, after hours, and holidays, participate in on-call rotation and able to travel when required
  • Primary responsibility is to ensure minimal IT downtime for manufacturing and interact with multiple teams to plan and manage equipment installation and support
  • Represent IT with pride, support, enthusiasm and kindness and Immediately respond to line down situations, to remediate any IT related issues
  • Work with various teams (controls engineers, production associates, application teams) to troubleshoot issues
  • Perform root cause analysis, document findings, and suggest changes to prevent future outages
  • Install, support, patch, upgrade, replace, and remediate all IT hardware along manufacturing lines
  • Troubleshoot hardware, operating system and software issues and troubleshoot network issues from the client up to the switch and IDF
  • Improve the security posture of manufacturing by patching, updating, securing vulnerable hardware and software
  • Interface with various manufacturing groups to understand issues and interpret how to solve long term needs within the framework of IT Manufacturing standards
What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a desktop support or system admin role
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware issues, replacing hardware on Windows machines and imaging hardware devices and updating firmware
  • Experience troubleshooting thermal label printers, barcode scanners, hand-held radios, digital signage and basic client-side network (DHCP, DNS, Static IP) problems
  • Must be available for swing shift, weekends, and on-call support and very good written and spoken German and English skills and able to work under pressure in the presence of stakeholders
  • Multi-tasking ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Extensive experience in IP networking, L2/L3 network protocols (spanning-tree, OSPF), TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, QOS, VLAN, VRRP, LACP with VXLAN, ACL, application flow, RADIUS, NAC and infrastructure cabling
  • Experience with multi-vendor switching technologies including Juniper and Cisco;
  • Exposure to Aruba wireless controller solutions with IEEE 802.11 standards, encryption, rogue detection, 802.1x, EAP-TLS
  • Previous exposure to Palo Alto and Juniper firewall products
  • Working understanding of tools and protocols such as Wireshark, wireless spectrum analyzers, site survey tools, SNMP, NetFlow, IPAM solutions, Splunk, network taps and load/stress testing
  • Developing scripts to automate infrastructure deployment and collect metrics and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
