Summary

This is a Lead Performance Engineer role at Disney Experiences (DX) Technology & Digital. The role requires an experienced QA Performance Engineer to lead performance testing and analysis of critical services, troubleshoot performance issues with Cloud services and applications, and coordinate performance testing projects. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and relationship skills, be able to articulate technical topics to both technical and non-technical staff, and have experience performance testing complex service architectures. Responsibilities include ramping up new performance testing projects, reviewing complex architecture diagrams, crafting breakdowns of project tasks, managing capacity/scaling of cloud services, and communicating project status to stakeholders. The role is a Project Hire, for a minimum of 2 years.

We seek an experienced Lead QA Performance Engineer who will join a Performance Engineering team. Primary responsibilities include leading performance testing and analysis of critical services, troubleshooting performance issues with Cloud services and applications, recommending accurate Cloud scaling parameters for services in Load and Production, environments and coordinating performance testing projects, forecasting work for self and testing personnel, and being responsible for scripting and performance testing personnel. 
This position works closely with various business engineering and production teams to review requirements, develop performance testing estimates and test plans, and provide an excellent customer quality support that is in Disney’s DNA! The role requires someone who is technical, proactive, hard-working, constructive, and highly motivated. 

This is a Project Hire role, for 2 years minimum.


Your responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ramping up new performance testing projects in close partnership with business partners and being able to prioritize work, build a solid plan, and completing on time to support the project launch dates
  • Review complex architecture diagrams and application user documentation so you can build estimates for amount of work and build a testing plan
  • Responsible for crafting breakdown of project tasks to meet project objectives
  • Responsible for communicating project status to project manager, Directors or above
  • Responsible for capacity management/scaling of our cloud services to meet demands during launches
  • Accountable for/instructing other performance engineers how to create breakdowns of tasks
  • Accountable for/guiding other performance engineers how to complete tasks on time
  • Responsible to help unblock self and bring up issues/blockers to the right leader if necessary
  • Responsible for sharing their work/experiences, and successes with the team


Experience and skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years of related work experience 
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, and be able to articulate sophisticated technical topics to both technical and non-technical staff
  • Communicate clearly in high pressure situations to all levels of stakeholders
  • Represent our organization in incidents that involve other business units
  • Experience performance testing complex service architectures including related services, caches, and databases
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills

Technical hands-on experience in:

  • Cloud Infrastructure (experienced) Public Cloud Provider such as AWS, Azure, GCP
  • AWS Cloud & Containerization: Fargate, ECS, Lambdas, Api Gateways, EC2, S3, ALB/ELB, Elasticache, VPC, IAM, EKS, Docker
  • Performance Engineering Fundamentals (expert)
  • JMeter scripting (expert)
  • Code Profiling (expert)
  • APM tools (expert) - Cloudwatch, AppDynamics, Splunk, Grafana, Wily, JConsole, GC Analyzer
  • Test Data Management (expert)
  • Chaos Testing (experienced)
  • Agile Project Management (experienced)
  • Java fundamentals (intermediate)
  • Languages - Java, JMeter
  • Database fundamentals (intermediate) - MySQL/MariaDB, Aurora, MongoDB, Dynamo DB
  • Caching Technologies (intermediate) - Redis
  • Docker/Containerization (understanding)

Required education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

The hiring range for this position in CA is $138,900.00-$186,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
