As a Legal Counsel, you will work on any legal situation related to the development, publishing, and marketing of video games. You will report to the Legal Director, Privacy & Commercial, and collaborate with business teams. Your responsibilities include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contractual agreements; providing legal advice to production, marketing, and administrative teams on commercial law, intellectual property, privacy, and contracts; advising on compliance with privacy and technology laws; drafting legal documents for websites and games; and participating in special projects. This role is for someone adaptable and enjoys a dynamic, team-oriented environment with varied tasks.
Must have:
  • Member of the Quebec Bar with 2-5 years experience.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial law, intellectual property, and privacy legislation.
  • Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written).
  • Team player with a positive attitude and initiative.
Good to have:
  • Experience in the entertainment industry (an asset).
  • Comfortable with technology and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using DocuSign and Office 365 (an asset).

As a Legal Counsel, your role enables you to work across any legal situation that may be encountered related to the development, publishing and marketing of videogames. The legal counsel will report to the Legal Director, Privacy & Commercial, and will closely collaborate with the business teams at Behaviour. If you are adaptable and happy to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, where the tasks are varied and changeable, this position could be for you. 

In this role you will:

    • Review, draft, and negotiate various contractual agreements (such as service agreements, software license agreements, data processing agreements, etc.).
    • Provide legal advice to production, marketing, and administrative teams on legal matters that may impact their activities, including commercial law, intellectual property, privacy, and contracts.
    • Advise the company on compliance with existing and emerging privacy and technology laws, and maintain up-to-date data records.
    • Draft legal documents required for websites and games (e.g., End User License Agreements, Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policies).
    • Participate in special projects and perform other related tasks as needed.

What we're looking for :

    • You are a member of the Quebec Bar with 2 to 5 years of experience, either in a law firm or in-house, ideally within the entertainment industry (an asset).
    • You have solid knowledge of commercial law, intellectual property rights, and privacy legislation.
    • You are bilingual in English and French (spoken and written), as many of the contracts to be reviewed are drafted in English.
    • You are a team player with a positive attitude and demonstrate initiative.
    • You are comfortable with technology, proficient in Microsoft Office, and have experience using DocuSign and Office 365 (an asset).

Dans ce rôle vous devrez :

    • Réviser, rédiger et négocier diverses ententes contractuelles (contrats de services, licences d’utilisation de logiciels, ententes de traitement des données, etc.);
    • Fournir des conseils aux équipes de production, de marketing et d’administration sur des questions juridiques dans tout domaine pouvant toucher leurs activités: droit commercial, propriété intellectuelle, protection de la vie privée, et contrats;
    • Conseiller l'entreprise sur la conformité aux lois existantes et émergentes relatives à la protection de la vie privée et aux technologies, et maintenir les registres de données à jour;
    • Rédiger les documents légaux requis pour les sites web et pour les jeux (i.e. contrat de licence d’utilisateur, modalités et conditions, politique de confidentialité);
    • Participer à certains projets spéciaux et faire toute autre tâche connexe.

Ce que nous recherchons:

    • Vous êtes membre du Barreau du Québec depuis 2 à 5 ans et avez de l’expérience en cabinet d’avocats  ou en entreprise, idéalement dans le domaine du divertissement (un atout);
    • Vous avez de bonnes connaissances en droit commercial, des droits de propriété intellectuelle et des lois sur la protection de la vie privée;
    • Vous êtes bilingue anglais/français (oral et écrit) puisque les contrats à réviser sont souvent rédigés en anglais; 
    • Vous êtes un joueur d’équipe avec une attitude positive et faites preuve d'initiative;
    • Vous aimez les technologies, maîtrisez la suite Microsoft Office et avez déjà utilisé Docusign et Office 365 (un atout).
En tant que conseiller.ère juridique, votre rôle vous permet de travailler sur toute situation juridique pouvant survenir dans le cadre du développement, de l'édition et de la commercialisation de jeux vidéo. Le conseiller juridique relèvera de la Directrice juridique, Protection des renseignements personnels et affaires commerciales, et collaborera étroitement avec les équipes commerciales de Behaviour.
