Thales in Huizen is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for the SOTAS Hardware Engineering Team. This role involves ensuring products are optimally designed for production at the lowest cost and highest quality. The engineer will create comprehensive data packages and work instructions, proactively communicating with both internal teams and external partners. Key responsibilities also include selecting components, specifying technical documentation for new processes, implementing new tools, and supporting factory analysis. The team translates customer requirements into robust technical solutions, focusing on electronic PCBAs and mechanical parts, with final assembly and functional testing conducted at the Huizen facility.
Must have:
  • Ensure products are optimally designed for production at the lowest cost and highest quality.
  • Compile data packages and work instructions; proactively communicate with partners and internal production.
  • Select components and tools to minimize supply problems.
  • Specify and prepare technical documentation for new production processes and implement new tools.
  • Contribute to test setups to optimize their fit in the production process.
  • Support the factory in analyzing material or assembly problems.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in production processes based on Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience in the manufacturing and electronics industry as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • HBO diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent proficiency in Dutch and English, both oral and written.
  • Dutch nationality is required due to military project requirements.

About the team

The Hardware Engineering team (35 FTE) translates customer requirements into robust technical solutions, qualified according to military standards. To make the products optimally suitable for production, manufacturing engineers work closely within the hardware development team. The focus is on developing and releasing electronic PCBAs and mechanical parts (such as housings). The production of these parts is outsourced to our partners.

The SOTAS product is assembled and functionally tested at our facility in Huizen.

About your future job

  • You ensure that products are optimally designed at the lowest cost and highest quality. To guarantee that we deliver quality products to our customers, you ensure that both internal and external production knows exactly how the product should be produced and tested. For this, you compile data packages and work instructions and proactively communicate with partners and internal production.
  • You select components and tools with the lowest possible risk of supply problems.
  • You specify and prepare technical documentation for new production processes and implement new tools, including adjusting work instructions.
  • You contribute to the test setups so that they fit optimally into the production process.
  • You support the factory in analyzing problems in materials or assembly.
  • You see opportunities in production processes to implement improvements based on Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Has knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or would like to learn it.
  • Has at least 3+ years of experience in a similar position.

  • Has an HBO diploma or equivalent through experience.
  • Has good communication skills and can work independently.
  • Can express themselves excellently in Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.
