Job Description

This role is about making an impact by putting People First and expanding possibilities. You will collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to manage the buying process for goods, ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery. Your work will reduce inventory, minimize transportation costs, and improve supplier performance, ultimately strengthening the supply chain. Must have:

  • Reduce the excess of inventory and minimize premium transportation costs.
  • Improve supplier performance and strengthen fulfillment operations.
  • Ensure reliable supply chain execution while supporting costs, quality and delivery goals.
  • Place and follow up on purchase orders to support delivery to internal customers.
  • Manage supplier relationships for PO execution, shipments, and maintenance.
  • Analyze and track supplier promise date accuracy, develop reports for accountability.
  • Address problems and schedule changes related to shop MSP adjustments.
  • Manage transportations needs, working to avoid premium air shipments.
  • Reduce excess inventory and work with quality/Engineering to address non-conforming materials.
  • Assess supplier capabilities and make recommendations on supplier acceptability.
  • Support global commodity leader in inflation/deflation goals.
  • Serve as the primary accounts payable/receivable interface for your supply base.
  • Execute routine and complex analysis and suggest process improvements.
  • Mentor less seasoned buyers in fulfillment activities.
  • Lead or participate in fulfillment-related projects, including Oracle implementation.

Who will you be working with?

You will collaborate with internal teams including operations, quality, engineering, materials managers and operational excellence teams. You will also interact directly with Suppliers and other sites to ensure smooth fulfillment and sources processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or related field or least 4 years of procurement, sourcing or buying experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred: Experience in railroad, aerospace, automotive or other heavy industrial manufacturing sectors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience working with suppliers, managing purchase orders and ensuring on-time delivery. Demonstrated experience managing suppliers’ relationships and negotiating pricing.
  • Knowledge in procurement process, sources strategies, and supply chance management principles.
  • Experience working with ERP/ MRP systems (e.g, Oracle, SAP) for purchasing and inventory control
  • Basic understanding of cost analysis, supplier performance metrics, and negotiation techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and work with technical specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suit (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to learn software quickly.
  • Strong written communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to build effective supplier and team relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Place and follow up on purchase orders to support delivery to internal customers.
  • Manage supplier relationships for PO execution, shipments, and maintenance to ensure timely delivery, leveraging the Supply Chain Connect System.
  • Analyze and track supplier promise date accuracy, develop reports to ensure supplier accountability.

  • Address problems and schedule changes related to shop MSP adjustments.
  • Manage transportations needs, working to avoid premium air shipments.
  • Reduce the excess of inventory and work with quality/ Engineering to address non-conforming materials.

  • Support global commodity leader in inflation/deflation goals.
  • Serve as the primary accounts payable/ receivable interface for your supply base.
  • Execute routine and complex analysis (e.g., ASCP reschedule signals, system signal flows) and suggest process improvements.
  • Mentor less seasoned buyers in fulfillment activities.
  • Lead or participate in fulfillment-related projects, including Oracle implementation, and onboarding sites into fulfillment standard work.

  • Role is primary performed in an office environment requiring extensive use of computers, phone and other office equipment.
  • Occasional presence on the shop floor or visits to other manufacturing sites as needed.

  • The position requires the employee to be on-site during the scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
  • May require talking, standing, bending to lift lifting (up to 25 lbs.) when handling part of reviewing materials in the shop.

  • When visiting the shop or production areas, the employee must follow all safety procedures, including the use of PEE as required.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $65k-$70k.

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
