Job Description

The NPI Process Engineer (Mechanical Assembly) will perform Design for Assembly (DFA) analysis for new product mechanical assembly and drive closure of non-compliance issues. They will collaborate with Design Engineering (DE) and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) suppliers to resolve mechanical assembly or process-related problems. This role involves developing new Backend (BE) processes/technology, establishing suppliers for best-in-class manufacturing, troubleshooting product mechanical failures, and continuously seeking process improvements. The engineer will be responsible for improving quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness. Responsibilities also include hands-on experience in product mechanical failures troubleshooting and optimization of new product manufacturing processes.
Good To Have:
  • Experience in SMT process for Flex and PCBA.
  • Experience in SMT DFM process.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and reporting skills.
Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Mechanical assembly process knowledge.
  • Familiarity with best practices in mechanical assembly and assembly jig/fixture design.
  • Familiarity with poka-yoke design and Design for Assembly guidelines/rules.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools like pFMEA, SPC, DOE.
  • Knowledge of Ultrasonic, resistance welding, and heat staking processes.
  • Knowledge of Vacuum leak test requirements and troubleshooting.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Perform DFA (Design for Assembly) analysis for new product mechanical assembly, and drive for non-compliance closure.
  • Working with DE (Design Engineering) and EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) suppliers to drive closure of mechanical assembly or process related issues.
  • Working with DE (Design Engineering) and EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) suppliers to develop new BE (Backend) processes / technology.   
  • Develop suppliers to provide best in class manufacturing processes to support new product manufacturing requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in product mechanical failures troubleshooting and optimization of new product manufacturing processes.  
  • Continuously develop and seek new processes breakthroughs that improve quality, productivity and cost.

Basic Requirements

Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Master’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Candidate must possess below experience and knowledge :
    • Mechanical assembly process
    • Familiar with best practices in mechanical assembly and assembly jig / fixture design
    • Familiar with poka-yoke design and Design for Assembly guideline / design rules
    • Familiar with statistical tool such as pFMEA, SPC, DOE
    • Ultrasonic, resistance welding and heat staking process
    • Vacuum leak test requirement and troubleshooting
  • Experience / knowledge in below technology/methodology will be added advantage
    • Experience in SMT process for Flex and PCBA
    • Experience in SMT DFM process
  • Excellent communication, organization, reporting and highly analytical skills individuals with strong personal interaction skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Self motivated with high level of initiative and energy.
  • Willingness for domestic and international travel (when applicable)
  • On-site at EMS / supplier site as required to provide technical support / guidance.
  • Preferred 2-3 years related working experience in the following field.
