The Operations Engineer provides technical solutions to complex problems, addressing day-to-day customer and application issues through analysis and research. This individual contributor role involves installing, configuring, operating, and evolving common infrastructure like networks, servers, and cloud services. The role specifically supports and maintains mission-critical Java applications in a Linux environment, providing escalated technical support, resolving complex issues, and ensuring system reliability and performance.
Must have:
  • Provide escalated technical support for complex issues
  • Coordinate escalated support cases with internal teams and third-party vendors
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve assigned tickets using root cause analysis
  • Install, monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all production applications
  • Analyze operational metrics and implement action plans
  • Continuously monitor production servers and applications for system health
  • Use alarm monitoring tools to interpret, resolve, or escalate issues
  • Perform benchmarking and research to improve production performance
  • Conduct error research based on warnings and errors in production logs
  • Prioritize production issues using logs, database entries, and process analysis
  • Collaborate with development and QA teams, automate operational tasks, and support CI/CD pipelines
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in application support, technical customer support, problem management, relational databases, programming languages, or software development
  • Proficiency with Linux operating systems and Java application environments
Good to have:
  • Telecom knowledge (DSS, GSM, GTP, etc)
  • Experience with monitoring tools, log analysis, and incident management
  • Familiarity with deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of networking and security best practices

Who We're Looking For

The Operations Engineer provides technical solutions to exceptionally difficult problems. This role will address day-to-day customer issues, application issues, problems and concerns that are detailed and complex in nature, requiring analysis and research. This position will install, configure, operate and evolve common infrastructure such as the network, servers, and external services (e.g. the cloud).

Scope of the Role:

  • Direct Reports: This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports

We are seeking an Applications Operations Engineer to support and maintain mission-critical Java applications running in a Linux environment. This role is responsible for providing escalated technical support, resolving complex issues, and ensuring the reliability and performance of production systems. The ideal candidate will coordinate internal and third-party resources to resolve support cases, analyze root causes, and maintain ownership of technical tickets through resolution. Responsibilities also include managing deployments, monitoring application and server health, performing benchmarking, and executing error research based on production logs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide escalated technical support for complex issues, lead problem management cases, and communicate status to management.
  • Coordinate escalated support cases, involving internal technical teams and third-party vendors as needed.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve assigned tickets using root cause analysis.
  • Install, monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all production applications.
  • Participate in ticket review, analyze severity and scope, and maintain ownership until resolution.
  • Analyze operational metrics, identify causes for deviations, and implement action plans.
  • Execute feedback-driven action plans to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously monitor production servers and applications for system health, resource utilization, file transfer rates, database insert rates, and logs.
  • Monitor application health, including file processing, data loading, scheduled tasks, report generation, dashboards, and logs.
  • Use alarm monitoring tools to interpret, resolve, or escalate issues appropriately.
  • Perform benchmarking and research to improve production performance and correct problems.
  • Conduct error research based on warnings and errors in production logs.
  • Prioritize production issues using logs, database entries, and process analysis.
  • Collaborate with development and QA teams, automate operational tasks, and support CI/CD pipelines.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.

Experience, Education, and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in application support, technical customer support, problem management, relational databases, programming languages, or software development.
  • Certifications in operating systems and databases preferred.
  • Proficiency with Linux operating systems and Java application environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Telecom knowledge (DSS, GSM, GTP, etc)
  • Experience with monitoring tools, log analysis, and incident management.
  • Familiarity with deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of networking and security best practices.
