Job Description

As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll design and implement the CosmosDB MongoDB API gateway service. This involves collaboration with partner teams, building a highly performant and scalable service, improving service telemetry, and proactively identifying areas for improvement. The role focuses on Azure Cosmos DB, a globally distributed, elastic-scale, multi-model cloud database service. You will work on the next generation single tenant vCore MongoDB Gateway, leveraging your expertise in Rust and large-scale distributed systems. Experience with open-source API stacks like MongoDB is a plus.

Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft’s next generation globally distributed, elastic scale, multi-model cloud database service - designed to enable developers to build planet scale applications. Azure Cosmos DB allows you to elastically scale both throughput and storage across any number of geographical regions with tunable consistency while providing blazing fast read/write performance backed by enterprise grade SLAs. 

One of the unique features of Azure Cosmos DB is its multi-model APIs which allows users to develop new/migrate existing applications using popular open-source (OSS) APIs such as MongoDB, giving it a unique edge. As one of the fastest-growing Azure services, Cosmos DB Mongo API team is looking for a passionate and technically strong engineer to help design, implement and deliver for our next generation single tenant vCore MongoDB Gateway.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of RUST programming experience.

Other Requirements

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
    • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with life cycle of service development, deployment and servicing.
  • Experience with existing open-source api stack like MongoDB is a huge plus.
  • 5+ years technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
  • Management Information Systems (MIS), or other industry or product specific Engineering Certifications.
  • 6+ years of RUST programming expertise in scalability improvements.

 

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $135,800 - CAD $253,000 per year.
