Job Description

As a Principal UI Engineer at Cadence, you will enhance and extend Orion’s UI capabilities, a platform used by scientists for early-stage drug discovery and design. Orion leverages advanced HPC, computational methods, and 3D visualization to model billions of compounds. This role involves collaborating with designers, scientists, and software engineers on scientific visualization, collaboration, data management, and new product development, contributing to cutting-edge features and modernizing existing software to improve human health.

Must Have:
  • BS in computer science/engineering, biology/chemistry or similar with a minimum of 7 years of experience OR MS with a minimum of 5 years of experience OR PhD with a minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Experience designing, developing, troubleshooting and debugging complex user interfaces and software systems as part of a team
  • Expert in JavaScript/Typescript/CSS/HTML
  • Experience with Vue, Pinia/VueX and application frameworks such as Nuxt.js / Next.js
  • Experience with unit & end-to-end testing, CI/CD, source control, code review, comfortable using command line interfaces
  • Strong background of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms)
  • Ability to establish a close working relationship with peers in development, science, design and customer success
  • Take initiative to solve unexpected challenges during development
  • Willing to expand knowledge and skills in both technical and scientific areas
  • Push to raise the bar while always operating with integrity

As a Principal UI Engineer, you will work with designers, scientists, and software engineers to enhance & extend Orion’s UI capabilities. You'll have the chance to work on a multitude of interesting challenges across scientific visualization, collaboration, data management, as well as new product & feature development. You’ll be part of a team building cutting edge features, as well as helping to modernize existing software.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in computer science/engineering, biology/chemistry or similar with a minimum of 7 years of experience OR MS with a minimum of 5 years of experience OR PhD with a minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Experience designing, developing, troubleshooting and debugging complex user interfaces and software systems as part of a team
  • Expert in JavaScript/Typescript/CSS/HTML
  • Experience with Vue, Pinia/VueX and application frameworks such as Nuxt.js / Next.js.
  • Experience in Life Sciences, HPC, Python, AWS, Web Workers, WebAssembly, and WebGL are a plus
  • Experience with unit & end-to-end testing, CI/CD, source control, code review, comfortable using command line interfaces
  • Strong background of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms)
  • Passionate to learn and explore new technologies and demonstrates good analysis and problem-solving skills

The annual salary range for Massachusetts is $117,600 to $218,400. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
