Job Description

Glitch Productions is seeking a Production Finance Manager to manage financial operations for animation productions. This role involves collaborating with producers and the general finance manager to create budgets, track expenditures, forecast overages, evaluate bids, and generate reports for governmental compliance and tax offset applications. Reporting to the COO, you will ensure shows stay within budget, providing necessary resources for exceptional content.
Must have:
  • Creating detailed budgets and cost breakdowns for upcoming productions.
  • Tracking all production expenditure (wages, contractors, equipment, overheads).
  • Collaborating to create financial tracking and analysis systems.
  • Forecasting potential overages and providing detailed information to producers.
  • Assisting with bi-monthly payroll submissions for production staff.
  • Regularly reporting to producers and COO on departmental and team budgets.
  • Assisting in tax offset applications by providing accurate financial reports.
  • Calculating and paying residuals and royalties in line with industry guidelines.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in production accounting, especially animation.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (preferably Xero).
  • Experience with small/medium-budget productions, process, and pipeline.
  • Familiarity with Australian tax regulations and media production offsets.
  • Experience with non-Australian studios/governments, regulations, and tax requirements.
  • Immaculate attention to detail, organized workstyle, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder and time management skills.
Good to have:
  • Experience in accounting related industries (events, marketing, merchandise).
  • Experience using production tracking software (e.g., Flow/Shotgrid).
  • Understanding of SAG-AFTRA scale and residual guidelines.
  • Understanding or experience with arts, animation, gaming, or 'internet nerd' culture.

About us:

Glitch Productions is an independent animation studio based in Australia making original, long form animated shows distributed on Youtube. Our channel has over 16 million subscribers, tens of millions of views per episode and is still growing strong. Our studio is filled with incredibly talented and passionate artists that are determined to change the way animation is produced and treated in the industry. Our biggest IP; Digital Circus, has amassed over 350 million views on the pilot alone and we have a lot more still to come.

Role Information:

Glitch Productions is looking for a Production Finance Manager to oversee and manage the financial operations of our animation productions. This role will see you working closely with our producers and general finance manager to: create budgets, track expenditures, forecast overages, evaluate production bids, and generate reports required for governmental compliance and tax offset applications. Reporting directly to the COO, you will be instrumental in helping keep our shows on budget so that they have the resources they need to create something exceptional.

Your duties will include:

  • Creating detailed budgets and cost breakdowns for our upcoming productions, based on historical data and information provided by producers.
  • Tracking all production expenditure, including wages, contractors, equipment, and overheads, and assigning them to the relevant series and episode.
  • Collaborating with the producer and operations teams to create financial tracking and analysis systems compatible with existing production and project management software.
  • Forecasting potential overages using trend analysis and providing detailed information to producers in order to prevent or justify that figure.
  • Assist with bi-monthly payroll submissions for production staff and work expenses.
  • Regularly reporting to producers and COO on departmental and team budgets and spending.
  • Assisting in the submission of tax offset applications by providing accurate financial reports and revenue figures.
  • Calculating and paying residuals and royalties in line with industry and union guidelines.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in production accounting, with a particular emphasis on the animation industry.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and accounting software - preferably Xero.
  • Experience working with small and medium-budget productions, including the production process and pipeline.
  • Familiarity with Australian tax regulations and offsets available for media production services.
  • Experience working with non-Australian studios and governments, and any regulations and tax requirements therein.
  • Immaculate attention to detail, with an extremely organized workstyle and a love of problem solving.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and time management skills.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience in accounting related industries such as events, marketing, and merchandise.
  • Experience using production tracking software such as Flow (previously known as Shotgrid).
  • An understanding of SAG-AFTRA scale and residual guidelines.
  • An understanding or experience with the arts, animation, gaming, and/or ‘internet nerd’ culture.
