Cambium, a circular economy innovator, seeks a Senior Manager, Mass Timber Strategy & Execution to lead the growth and adoption of Carbon Smart Wood™ for the mass timber industry. This role involves shaping the technical backbone of Cambium's mass timber business, connecting Carbon Smart Wood™ supply with high-performance design solutions for developers, architects, and fabrication partners. The ideal candidate has deep experience in engineered wood systems, relationship development, structural analysis, and collaborative project delivery, aiming to transform the built environment through sustainable material innovation.
Must have:
  • Work with architects, developers, and GCs during pre-construction phases to specify Carbon Smart Wood™.
  • Provide design review and VE recommendations for Cambium’s Carbon Smart Wood™ product lines.
  • Translate performance and sustainability criteria into detailed connection systems, panel layouts, and structural solutions.
  • Ensure mass timber projects meet applicable codes (IBC, NDS, ASCE 7) and mass timber standards.
  • Oversee development and manufacturer support of optimized kit-of-parts solutions and fabrication-ready designs.
  • Evaluate new species and product configurations for structural feasibility, code compliance, and market integration.
  • Champion material transparency, performance testing, and contribution to carbon and LCA data for third-party certifications.
  • Serve as technical liaison to Cambium’s supply chain, sales, and sustainability teams.
  • Provide engineering guidance to project managers, fabrication partners, and manufacturers.
  • Participate in industry groups, conferences, and coalitions advancing mass timber design and construction innovation.

About This Role

Cambium is seeking a forward-thinking, technically-driven Senior Manager, Mass Timber Strategy & Execution to lead the growth and adoption of Carbon Smart WoodTM for the mass timber industry. This role will play a critical leadership function in shaping the technical backbone of our mass timber business, where we connect Carbon Smart WoodTM supply with high-performance design solutions for developers, architects, and fabrication partners.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in engineered wood systems, relationship development, structural analysis, and collaborative project delivery—and is excited to help transform the built environment through sustainable material innovation.

What You’ll Do Here

Business Development & Design Integration

  • Work with architects, developers, and GCs during pre-construction phases and align early mass timber strategies with sustainability and constructability goals to specify Carbon Smart Wood™.
  • Provide design review and VE recommendations tied to Cambium’s Carbon Smart Wood™ product lines.
  • Translate performance and sustainability criteria into detailed connection systems, panel layouts, and structural solutions.

Leadership & Innovation

  • Ensure that Cambium’s mass timber projects meet applicable codes (IBC, NDS, ASCE 7) and mass timber standards (PRG-320, CSA, APA guidelines).
  • Oversee the development and manufacturer support of optimized kit-of-parts solutions and fabrication-ready designs for CLT, Glulam, and hybrid systems.
  • Evaluate new species and product configurations for structural feasibility, code compliance, and long-term market integration, in collaboration with supply and academic partners
  • Champion material transparency, performance testing, and contribution to carbon and LCA data for third-party certifications (LEED, LBC, EPDs).

Strategic Collaboration

  • Serve as the technical liaison to Cambium’s supply chain, sales, and sustainability teams—ensuring seamless communication between material sourcing and final product performance.
  • Provide engineering guidance to project managers, fabrication partners, and manufacturers to ensure coordinated delivery and high-quality execution.
  • Participate in industry groups, conferences, and coalitions advancing mass timber design and construction innovation.

Your Skill Sets and Capabilities Include

  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in timber structural engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in mass timber systems.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or SE) license strongly preferred; eligibility for reciprocity in key states (CO, WA, OR, CA, NY) preferred.
  • Experience leading business development for complex projects with AEC teams.
  • Familiarity with sourcing-to-fabrication workflows and digital coordination (e.g., Revit, Rhino/Grasshopper, CADwork, or other timber-specific tools).
  • Strong communicator and team leader with the ability to balance innovation and constructability.
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable construction, circular economy principles, and material innovation.

The Details

  • This role will report to: Charles Gale, Director of Mass Timber
  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 base, with an estimated annual $50k-$70k in commission and bonus opportunities
  • When: We’re looking to fill this role immediately
  • Where: Remote, with preference for Bay Area candidates
