Illumina is seeking a hybrid Senior Project Manager, Technical to serve as the Reproductive Health Technical Lead and Project Manager for on-market product changes within the Clinical Portfolio. This role involves overall responsibility for R&D on market activities in the Reproductive Genetics Health (RGH) portfolio, including design changes, process improvements, troubleshooting, and life cycle management. The candidate will also develop budgets and timelines for projects and execute development projects of varying complexity. Responsibilities include ensuring the on-market RGH product line meets performance targets, prioritizing improvements, identifying and acting on potential issues, and ensuring continuity of supply. The role requires collaboration with Development, Operations, Marketing, and Commercial teams, strong leadership, negotiation, and influencing skills, the ability to work independently and in teams, manage multiple tasks, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
Must have:
  • Solid understanding of molecular assay development or genetic sequencing principles.
  • Familiarity with biotech/life science industry drivers.
  • Understanding of In Vitro Diagnostics quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency leading project teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop project budgets, timelines, and scope.
  • Proficient in project scheduling using MS Project or similar tools.
  • Proficient in project resource and budget management.
Good to have:
  • M.S./Ph.D. in Genomics, Genetics, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry.
  • 2 years managing projects.

Exciting hybrid opportunity to serve as both the Reproductive Health Technical Lead and a Project Manager for on-market product changes within Illumina’s diverse Clinical Portfolio.  In this role, you will take on overall responsibility for R&D on market activities in the Reproductive Genetics Heath (RGH) portfolio.  Activities under your purview include design changes, process improvements, troubleshooting and life cycle management.  You will also develop budgets/timelines for potential projects as well as execute development projects varying in size and complexity. 

The Clinical On-Market Core Team operates in a matrixed environment.  This is a highly collaborative role where you are expected to achieve results by successfully leveraging key partnerships in Development, Operations, Marketing and Commercial.  As such, in addition to the criteria below, the ideal candidate must be a skilled team leader with strong negotiating and influencing skills, be able to work independently and within a team, handle multiple tasks in parallel, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the on-market RGH product line is meeting its committed product and business performance targets

  • Overall responsibility of maintaining robust on-market performance of this portfolio
  • Prioritize and drive improvements within the on-market RGH product line
  • Identify, track, and act on leading indicators of potential issues
  • Ensure continuity of supply by supporting or leading key supply initiatives
  • Understand the evolving needs of our customers and assess any impact on our product definition and specifications

Ensure the Clinical On-Market Core Team is achieving its mission, including successful completion of defined deliverables

  • Provide leadership and support for Illumina on-market Clinical Team while ensuring adherence to internal business and quality system standards
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create, maintain, and execute overall project concept or scope, functional plans, resources, budget, and timelines
  • Drive, track, and communicate status of project deliverables
  • Identify needs for changes to plan and communicate them to the team and stakeholders to ensure program goals are in alignment with business objectives
  • Schedule and lead reviews with an executive approval committee
  • Identify and resolve or escalate program issues, facilitate tradeoff decisions, and remove obstacles
  • Continuously analyze and manage risks to enable successful project completion and portfolio management
  • Define and optimize project management and development processes, methodologies, and tools to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Apply best practices and knowledge of internal/external business challenges to improve products
  • Contribute to Design Change process or PMO function improvement initiatives

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of molecular assay development, genetic sequencing principles or sequencing devices strongly desired
  • Familiarity with key business drivers and considerations in the biotech and /or life science industries and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services
  • Understanding of In Vitro Diagnostics - IVD/Dx quality and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency leading project teams
  • Demonstrated success leading in a matrixed environment
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to develop project/program budget/timeline/scope de novo, develop plans and communicate proposals to leadership
  • Proficient at project scheduling using MS Project (or the like), including dependencies and critical path determination and optimization
  • Proficient at project/program resource management, resource scheduling, and budgets

Education

  • M.S./Ph.D. in Genomics, Genetics, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry, or related field is desired, along with 5+ years of relevant experience managing product development, product sustaining, process development, design, scale-up, improvement, validation activities/teams along with 2 years managing projects

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Project Manager, Technical role based in the United States of America is: $105,600 - $158,400. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
