Job Description

The Senior Roadway Designer will be responsible for producing roadway construction plans, understanding geometric design concepts, and developing pay item quantities and calculations. They will also need to understand the process for developing project cost estimates and assist with marketing efforts. The role requires minimal technical supervision, completing tasks within project expectations, and working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards. The designer will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activities. The role involves collaborating with other disciplines, such as structures, drainage, and landscape, to identify and reduce design conflicts.
Must have:
  • Proficient in roadway construction plans production
  • Expert in MicroStation or AutoCAD, including civil platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good to have:
  • Vocational Training course completion or equivalent college level courses

What You’ll Do

  • Proficient in roadway construction plans production
  • Understand the concepts of geometry design
  • Understand the development of pay item quantities and calculations
  • Understand the process for development of a project cost estimate
  • Effectively research projects and assist with marketing efforts from a roadway point-of-view
  • Gain knowledge in all design standards, manuals, and criteria
  • Requires minimal technical supervision of tasks by senior staff
  • Complete tasks and projects within expectations of Project Manager, Supervisor or Task Lead

What You’ll Need

  • High School diploma
  • Vocational Training course completion or equivalent college level courses is preferred
  • 10-20 years of related experience
  • Other experience or training may be considered 

What You’ll Bring

  • Expert in MicroStation or AutoCAD, including civil platforms (such as OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, Civil3D, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards in all work efforts
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in an organized manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activities
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Office Products
  • Ability to work with across other disciplines (roadway, structures and drainage, landscape, etc.) to identify and reduce design conflicts
