Job Description

As a Senior Software Systems Engineer (Flight Software), you will be responsible for verifying and validating Fly-By-Wire software according to DO-178 standards. This includes designing and reviewing requirement-based tests and assisting in developing certifiable flight automation technologies for the Urban Commercial Aviation industry. You'll be writing and reviewing test cases, performing unit tests, and creating software verification solutions. You will also support checklist activities for SOI audits and collaborate with the FAA and DER. This role requires a deep understanding of the DO-178C standard, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team.
Must have:
  • Write and review requirement-based test cases and procedures
  • Perform unit tests and debug software based on verification tests
  • Strong understanding of DO-178C standard
  • Decompose high-level requirements into verifiable low-level requirements
  • Strong coding experience in Python or C/C++
  • Verification testing experience on LDRA and/or C/C++
Good to have:
  • Experience with flight control systems or other aviation software
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices
  • Experience with static analysis and code coverage tools
  • Experience working in a startup and fast-paced environment

About the Role:  

In this role, you will be responsible for both the verification and validation of the Fly-By-Wire software adhering to DO-178 standards. You will design and review requirement-based tests to verify the software per DO-178C. You will assist in the development of certifiable flight automation technologies and cost-efficient processes for the new Urban Commercial Aviation industry. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Write and review requirement-based test cases and procedures to verify embedded flight software per DO-178C objectives.
  • Perform unit tests and debug software based on the verification tests. 
  • Create software verification solutions for efficient workflow using LDRA, C/C++, Python.
  • Support low level software testing using LDRA, C/C++, Python
  • Support software and verification checklist activities for SOI audits with the FAA and the DER

 

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering discipline 
  • 5 - 10 years of professional working experience in software requirements engineering, preferably within a safety critical environment. 

 

 

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. 

  • Strong understanding of the DO-178C standard, particularly related to requirements processes (DAL-A experience highly preferred). 
  • Proven experience in decomposing high-level requirements into detailed, verifiable low-level requirements. 
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., Polarion, Jama Connect, DOORS). 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Strong coding experience in Python or C/C++
  • Verification testing experience on LDRA and/or C/C++
  • Experience in software requirement development and requirement-based test development

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with flight control systems or other aviation software. 
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment. 
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices. 
  • Experience with static analysis and code coverage tools. 
  • Master's degree in a related field. 
  • Experience working in a startup environment and a fast-paced environment. 
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating requirements tasks. 

 

Location: Preferred on-site support in El Segundo, CA

Salary Range: $130K-$140K

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
