Job Description

The Simulator Maintenance Technician II is responsible for applying technical knowledge to solve complex problems, typically solved by interpreting maintenance manuals. They provide technical guidance to Technician 1 and diagnose malfunctions in analog/digital data computers and associated equipment. They also perform operability/readiness tests and repairs, apply troubleshooting procedures, and perform preventive maintenance. This role involves maintaining documentation, working with schematics, and using test equipment. The technician will also implement basic modifications to existing simulators.

SUMMARY 

Applies comprehensive knowledge and experience to solve complex or system problemsthose typically solved solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. The Shift Supervisor may review work for general compliance with accepted practicesMay also provide technical guidance and instruction to Technician 1.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:  Other duties maybe assigned.  

  • Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problemsthose typically solved by properly interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documents. 

  • Receives limited technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician and work is reviewed for specific compliance with accepted practices and work assignments. 

  • Provides technical guidance to Technician 1.   

  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results and use of program listings to isolate faults.  

  • Ability to write machine language diagnostics and capable of interpreting and working with computer systems utilizing operating systems.   

  • Must possess skills to perform calibrations, adjustments and tests on electronic equipment; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions and replace defective components used in installed devices; test and repair linear computing elements, phase inverters and operational amplifiers.  

  • Maintains required documentation of maintenance activities.   

  • Diagnose malfunctions of analog/digital data computers and associated equipment and performs operability/readiness tests and repair.   

  • Perform systems interface/fault isolation.   

  • Apply fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers; interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and drawings and make simplified versions.   

  • Possess proficiency in the use and operation of test equipment to perform pre- and post-operational test on installed equipment to perform preventive maintenance using preventative maintenance cards and instruction books.   

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Implement basic modifications to existing simulators. 

  • Must be able to work overtime as required.

Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance. 

 

Education and/or Experience 

Position requires a Technical College Degree with 2 years of related experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of full flight simulators or an equivalent combination of technical education related to electronics, electromechanical, computer, aviation or simulation technology and/or hands-on related work experience in the maintenance and operation of full flight simulators that total a minimum of 4 years.  2 years of related experience may substitute for absence of Technical College Degree 

 

Language Skills 

Basic communication skills. 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents. 

 

Mathematical Skills 

Basic math skills. 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, fractions, percentages and ratios to practical situations. 

 

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusion.

  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds over head 

  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.  

  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device.  

  • Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment. 

  • Must be able to distinguish colors.

  • Shop floor environmentReasonable noise levels. 

  • Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure.
