Job Description
The Software Engineer on the Observability team will collaborate with platform and product engineering teams to enhance visibility, reliability, and performance across services. They will build and evolve observability tooling and infrastructure for monitoring, debugging, and improving applications at scale. They will solve technical challenges using a variety of technologies and investigate new ones to keep tooling and practices modern and effective. Responsibilities include building Observability-as-Code libraries, collaborating with Observability Champions, enhancing production debugging, contributing to technical guides, and providing support to engineers.
Must have:
- 3+ years of experience with Python, Ruby, JavaScript, or other languages.
- Experience with observability and alerting tools like DataDog and PagerDuty.
- Interest in working on technical projects from inception to delivery.
- Ability to operate and monitor highly available systems in production.
- Pride in writing testable, modular, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Experience with web application and/or distributed systems development.
- Comfortable in the terminal.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Occasional requirement to be on-call outside of standard hours.

Software Engineers on the Observability team collaborate closely with platform and product engineering teams to enhance visibility, reliability, and performance across our services. They play a key role in building and evolving observability tooling and infrastructure that helps teams monitor, debug, and improve their applications at scale. They work collaboratively to solve tough technical challenges using a wide variety of technologies and help investigate new ones as we strive to keep our tooling and practices modern, effective, and impactful.
Here’s How You Make an Impact:
- Build, scale, and maintain Observability-as-Code (OaC) libraries that improve monitoring and observability for engineering teams.
- Work closely with Observability Champions and engineers across teams to understand challenges, suggest improvements, and shape future training sessions.
- Collaborate with platform teams to enhance production debugging, service health insights, and system reliability across our stack.
- Partner with observability vendors to evaluate capabilities, influence roadmaps, and contribute to cost optimization initiatives based on data usage and engineering needs.
- Contribute technical guides, internal documentation, and training sessions that promote observability best practices, helping teams become more self-sufficient.
- Provide support to Engineers by answering questions, troubleshooting issues and help debug problems related to observability tooling and abstractions we manage (e.g. DataDog, Sumo Logic, Sentry).
- Writing clear, concise, elegant, and well-tested code in Python, Ruby, and/or JavaScript.
- Working as part of a small, agile, integrated product team that’s focused on continual improvement of their skills and helping each other learn new things.
- Learning new technical skills with tools or frameworks needed to execute on tasks.
You Thrive Here By Possessing the Following:
- 3+ years of professional experience with some combination of Python, Ruby, JavaScript and/or other computer language.
- Experience with observability and alerting tools such as DataDog and PagerDuty.
- Interest in working on technical projects from inception to delivery.
- Able to operate and monitor highly available systems in production, or willing to quickly learn how to do so.
- Pride in writing testable, modular, maintainable, simple, and well-documented code.
