Job Description

The Collectibles Engineering team at eBay is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to enhance the buyer and seller experience, specifically for trading cards. This role involves leading a dynamic team, driving customer-focused delivery, and cultivating a culture of curiosity around product opportunities. The manager will facilitate technical design, ensure high software quality, manage the product backlog, and mentor team members, contributing to the overall success of eBay's rapidly growing collectibles sector.
Must have:

  • Minimum 10-12 years of software engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years as an Engineering Manager.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in Java, J2EE, Nodejs, full stack.
  • Expertise in microservices, REST, GraphQL.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • 8+ years of leadership experience.

Who we are :

The Collectibles Engineering team, specializing in Buyer Experience, is dedicated to significantly enhancing the user experience for both buyers and sellers within the collectibles domain, specifically focused on trading cards. This focus area is one of the most vital and rapidly growing sectors for eBay. Since the onset of 2025, we have executed several critical releases tailored for our collectibles audience.

Recently, this team gained attention for launching a new functionality that allows users to send raw cards to Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) for grading. (https://www.cllct.com/sports-collectibles/sports-cards/ebay-adds-new-feature-to-send-raw-cards-to-psa-for-grading)

You will be collaborating with a dynamic team of skilled engineers characterized by a strong predisposition towards proactive and swift action.

  • Possesses experience working within matrixed teams across multiple cross-functional domains, collaborating with engineering, product, design, program management, and analytics leaders.

  • Establishes high standards for software quality and demonstrates improvements and product stability through metrics and frameworks for scalable solutions.
  • Develops and maintains a well-prioritized backlog aligned with team objectives.
  • People
  • Clearly understands the team charter and assists the team in maintaining transparency and a clear comprehension of their objectives related to the team charter.
  • Engages in intentional goal setting and skill development for team members, efficiently aligning these efforts with the team charter.
  • Provides personalized mentoring and guidance to team members in a considerate and empathetic manner tailored to each individual.
  • Actively manages performance and ensures effective delivery within the team.
  • Attracts and recruits exceptional talent for the team, contributing to the overall success of the organization.

Required Experience:

The language of work is English.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering) plus 12+ years experience (or) a MS in Computer Science and 10+ years of software design experience

Technical:

  • 3+ years of experience as Engineering Manager
  • Experience collaborating with Product, Design and Business Policy teams to execute the roadmap.
  • Experience in building large scale distributed systems with high availability, scalability and resilience
  • Experienced working in Agile teams
  • Must have expertise in Java, J2EE, Nodejs & full stack engineering with a deep knowledge of its ecosystems and frameworks.
  • Proficient in microservices, event driven architecture, REST and GraphQL.
  • Design & Implemented CI/CD pipelines.
  • Developed and drove the adoption of technical patterns that significantly improved engineering practices across the organization.

Leadership

  • 8+ years of experience in partnering and effectively monitoring peers and juniors.
