Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager II, you will lead a team of Engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining Engineering Productivity (EngProd) tools for Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). You will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers, building a high-performing and diverse team. You will also drive technical excellence through technical reviews, mentoring, and promoting best practices in software development. You will partner with other GKE teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and alignment across the entire GKE ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with internal customers to translate product goals into technically feasible solutions. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging data-driven iteration and innovation within the team. You will communicate effectively with stakeholders, presenting technical plans, progress updates, and potential issues with clarity and transparency. You will stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud-native solutions and Kubernetes management.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of experience with software development
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role
  • 2 years of experience in a people management role
Good to have:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Experience in the Cloud space and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of programming language (e.g., Go)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience in the Cloud space and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of programming language (e.g., Go).

Responsibilities
