Staff Engineer - Alternate Payments Method (APM)

You will participate in all phases of our software development lifecycle from design, architecture and planning to development, testing, deployment, monitoring and beyond. You will be responsible in delivering an industry leading product and directing its next phase of growth. You will deep dive and implement robust solutions to complex problems. The prospective candidate will be an individual contributor working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, engineering), coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners. ## Job Description: ### Essential Responsibilities: * Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system * Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow * Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives * Proactively improves existing structures & processes * Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems * Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions * Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor * Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations ### Expected Qualifications: * Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. ### Preferred Qualification: * Proficiency in Java and related frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate. * A deep understanding of data structures, object-oriented design, and algorithms. * Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development. * Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems. * Proficiency in database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and in-memory databases. * Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. * Knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git. * Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues. * Experience transforming ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans. * Should be a strong advocate of code craftsmanship, good coding standards and use of tools that will improve the quality of the delivered code. * Nice to have familiarity with Front End technologies such as React, Express, Node * Experience working in payments or financial services industry is a plus. ### Subsidiary: PayPal ### Travel Percent: 0 PayPal is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
