MedPage Today is hiring a staff writer to write 4-6 clinical news articles a week, potentially in the areas of infectious disease and / or gastroenterology, though versatility across medical specialties is a plus. We’re looking for significant experience with medical news writing; a person who can actively promote their work and that of MedPage on social media; and a person who will follow their article comments with interest. This person will either have a solid network of contacts in a medical specialty, or will be adept at generating new contacts at academic medical centers to support their journalism.
The MedPage Today staff writer will travel to attend medical conferences in order to provide coverage in-person.
Key Responsibilities
- Write 4-6 clinical news stories a week and take assignments from various staff members
- Be able to identify the most important news in their assigned medical specialties; ones that will resonate with our healthcare professional audience
- Travel to cover medical meetings in assigned specialties
- Promote your work and that of MPT on social media, growing followers there and identifying leads for stories to cover yourself, or pass to our Enterprise & Investigative team
Job Qualifications
- A few years’ experience in health/medical journalism
- An understanding of how to read clinical studies
- An understanding of key health policy issues
