Job Description

As a Stress and Lifing Engineer at Rolls-Royce, you will be responsible for the structural analysis of critical part components like fan discs, compressor discs, and turbine discs. This role involves ensuring maximum product time on wing and continued safe operation by analyzing components under severe and complex loading conditions. You will use finite element analysis and numerical models to conduct mechanical integrity, stress, and lifing assessments, ensuring designs meet demanding safe life requirements. The position also involves identifying root causes, resolving problems, and promoting continuous improvement.
Good To Have:
  • 8 or more years of hands-on experience in conducting mechanical integrity, stress and lifing assessments using finite element analysis and other numerical models.
  • Ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions.
  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body appropriate to region.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization.
Must Have:
  • Conduct mechanical integrity, stress and lifing assessments using finite element analysis and other numerical models.
  • Specify and conduct mechanical experiments for underwriting designs and validating analytical or empirical models.
  • Identify root cause and resolve problems through evaluative judgements and analysis.
  • Act as a point of contact between the mechanical integrity discipline and other functions and customers.
  • Share subject matter knowledge across the function.
  • Promote, encourage and support continuous improvements of tools, processes and methods.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience OR PhD in Engineering.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Stress and Lifing Engineer that will operate in an extremely exciting space ensuring we help maximize our products time on wing and continued safe operation. As a Stress and Lifing Engineer, you will be responsible for the structural analysis of a variety of critical part components, ranging from fan discs, compressor discs, blisks & drums, turbine discs & cover plates as well as mainline shafts and stub-shafts. These components are subject to some of the most severe and complex loading conditions found in any engineering field, and they are designed and analyzed with high fidelity against highly demanding safe life requirements.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct mechanical integrity, stress and lifing assessments using finite element analysis and other numerical models
  • Specify and conduct mechanical experiments, for the purpose of underwriting designs, and validating analytical or empirical models
  • Identify root cause and resolve problems through evaluative judgements and analysis
  • Point of contact between the mechanical integrity discipline and other functions and customers
  • Point of contact within a given engineering discipline and to share subject matter knowledge across the function
  • Promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvements of tools, processes and methods) both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering, OR
  • Master's degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering, OR
  • PhD in Engineering
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:
