Aptiv is seeking an Engineering Team Lead for its Advanced Safety and User Experience products. This role involves leading a team to design, develop, and validate new products and technology, ensuring capability, cost, and quality meet customer requirements. The lead will identify and address skill gaps, manage team performance, and drive excellence and quality. The position requires strong engineering background and experience in the automotive industry.
Must have:
  • Lead a team to design, develop, and validate new products and technology
  • Identify key skills and address skill gaps through training or hiring
  • Recruit and onboard best-in-class, motivated employees
  • Manage people performance and provide coaching/mentoring
  • Ensure development opportunities are defined and available for team members
  • Acknowledge team success; reward and promote team members
  • Provide input to staffing planning for new contracts and organizational adjustments
  • Manage the engineering team to ensure proper planning and execution
  • Remove impediments blocking team performance
  • Drive excellence and quality by fostering a culture of perfection
  • Ensure team compliance to standard ways of working
  • Plan, monitor, and control team capabilities
  • Actively participate in customer communication for engineering, when required
  • Manage the team budget and capital planning
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (computer science, software, systems, or related field of study)
  • 5+ years professional experience in Automotive Industry or Consumer Electronics
  • 3+ years management/leadership experience
  • Proficient in English speaking, reading, and writing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively manage several projects at once
  • Strong engineering background in Systems Engineering, Vehicle Systems, or related field
  • Experience with vehicle protocols and diagnostics - CAN, LIN, Flex Ray, Ethernet
Good to have:
  • Master’s degree in engineering discipline (computer science, software, systems, or related field of study)
  • Exhibit advanced professional interest in people management
  • Ability and courage to conduct critical conversations
  • Ability to establish goals, monitor goal progress, and provide developmental feedback
  • Ability to work in complex, matrix organizations
  • Ability to work in an international, fast-paced environment
  • Ability in managing budget and capital planning
  • Knowledge and use of visualizations and metrics dashboards

Job Details

Aptiv is seeking an Engineering Team Lead for its Advanced Safety and User Experience products. You will be building and working with a team of highly motivated individuals that work on various automotive technologies to enhance driver experience, prevent accidents, and save lives.

In this role, you will lead a team to design, develop, and validate new products and technology such that capability, cost, and quality satisfy the customer requirements. You will identify the key skills required for each of the roles and level needed within your team. You will ensure that the skill gaps are immediately addressed through formal and on-the-job training, internal transfers, or external hiring.

Responsibilities:

  • Seek and hire best in class, motivated, and engaged employees that display behavioral traits aligned with company and competency values and goals
  • Establish an onboarding process that is structured, consistent, and adjustable to the skillset and experience of the new hire
  • Manage people performance and provide coaching / mentoring guidance as needed
  • Ensure development opportunities are defined and available for all team members
  • Participate in talent review sessions
  • Acknowledge team success; reward and promote team members based on contributions
  • Provide input to staffing planning to support new contracts and organizational adjustments
  • Manage the engineering team to ensure that proper planning and execution plans are in place meet program requirements; drive solutions.
  • Stay connected with team members to maintain deep understanding and progress of work
  • Remove impediments that are blocking team performance
  • Drive excellence by fostering the culture of pursuing perfection
  • Drive quality into the standard way of working
  • Drive team compliance to the standard way of working
  • Plan, monitor, and control capabilities of the team

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (computer science, software, systems, or related field of study)
  • 5+ years professional experience in Automotive Industry or Consumer Electronics
  • 3+ years management/leadership experience
  • Bi-lingual – proficient in English speaking/reading/writing
  • Interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a positive approach to challenge
  • Cross functional interests, ambitious and self-driven. Adaptive, comfortable with ambiguity
  • Ability to effectively manage several projects at once
  • Strong soft skills: skilled networking creation, influencing skills, constantly learning, positive and ownership profile
  • Strong engineering background in Systems Engineering, Vehicle Systems, or related field.
  • Experience with vehicle protocols and diagnostics - CAN, LIN, Flex Ray, Ethernet

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in engineering discipline (computer science, software, systems, or related field of study)
  • Exhibit advanced professional interest in people management, with particular focus on employee recruitment, coaching, and development
  • Ability and courage to conduct critical conversations
