Job Description

ABC11/WTVD seeks a Weekend Evening Meteorologist to join their First Alert Weather team. Responsibilities include forecasting weather conditions for Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville and Central Carolina, preparing weather maps and graphics, presenting live forecasts across multiple platforms, communicating crucial severe weather information, analyzing weather data, and utilizing computer models for accurate predictions. The ideal candidate will possess a commanding on-air presence, strong communication skills, and experience in covering severe weather using the latest technology. A minimum of 3 years of broadcasting experience in a small or medium market is required, along with a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or a related geoscience field.

  • Proficient in weather graphics software
  • Meteorology degree preferred

Job Summary:

ABC11/WTVD, the ABC Owned Television station in Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville, North Carolina, is seeking a meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather team. This person must have an engaging on-air presence and a commanding, authoritative delivery. The ideal candidate will be able to translate weather data into conversational and relatable information for our multi-platform audience. The person must have experience covering severe weather on live television utilizing the latest technology and resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Forecast local weather conditions for Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville and Central Carolina

  • Prepare relevant weather maps and innovative graphics to communicate the weather forecast and expected impacts

  • Present the live weather forecast across multiple platforms  

  • Communicate life-saving information to the audience during severe weather

  • Analyze weather observations to identify important atmospheric features

  • Utilize computer model data to produce accurate forecast

  • Possesses a knowledge of atmospheric dynamics and tropical meteorology

  • Proficient in producing compelling weather graphics through IBM’s Max software

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience of broadcasting in a small or medium market

Education:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology or associated geoscience preferred
