The 3D Environment Gaming Artist will be responsible for creating high-quality 3D environments for games across various platforms, including AR, VR, PC, and 3D mobile demos. The role involves modeling, texturing, and optimizing environments, ensuring they meet performance requirements for modern game hardware. The artist will collaborate with multiple disciplines and demonstrate expertise in architecture, construction techniques, materials, and lighting. They should also have a solid understanding of game development pipelines and tools such as Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Substance, and Unity/Unreal Engine.
Must have:
  • 5-8 years experience in modeling/texturing environments.
  • Solid understanding of architecture and construction techniques.
  • Experience creating 3D models for games, using Substance & Photoshop.
Good to have:
  • In-depth knowledge of building environments in Unity or Unreal Engine 5.
  • Experience with ZBrush.
  • Experience with Substance or Quixel to create photo realistic PBR materials.

General Summary:

Job Overview

Qualcomm's in-house Game Studio is seeking an experienced 3d environment artist to help create cutting edge graphic environments for games in AR – VR – PC and 3D mobile demos.  Ideal candidates should have an excellent understanding architecture, construction techniques and materials, and various natural features. The ideal artist for this role has an expert level creating 3D models, Zbrush sculpts, PBR textures and materials for both, geometric and organic environments. Must have a solid understanding of materials, LODs, draw calls, occlusion, and optimization techniques.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-8 years’ experience modeling/texturing environments in Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender on a shipped, mobile, VR, PC, or console game.

  • Solid understanding of architecture and construction techniques/materials to create realistic assets.

  • Strong understanding of 3d mechanical design and assemblies.

  • Solid grasp of lighting for games, both static & dynamic real-time.

  • Experience creating 3D models for games: props, vehicles, foliage, and using Substance & Photoshop to create PBR textures.

  • Ability to create art content that is performant for runtime and appropriate for modern game hardware, mobile or VR.

  • Strong UE5 or Unity experience with ability to debug and optimize: occlusion, draw calls, LODs & materials.

  • Strong ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple disciplines.

  • Demo materials to include sample level or models and texture files is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of building environments in Unity or Unreal Engine 5

  • Solid understanding of environment modeling and UV material application in Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender.

  • Experience with ZBrush.

  • Experience with Substance or Quixel to create photo realistic PBR materials.

  • Experience working on AAA games as an environment artist.

  • Understanding of VR and AR mobile limitations and requirements.

  • Basic knowledge of using AI tools for concept art creation and 2d art creation.

  • Experience with Heightmaps and large landscape creation.

  • Basic knowledge of level design.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 2+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Education Requirements

Preferred: A BFA or BA degree in art, design graphics, or have received equivalent on-the-job experience.
