Job Description

As an Advanced Lead Engineer within the compressed air team, you will be responsible for concept development, detail design work, and validation activities for the compressed air sub-systems and components used in the rail industry. This includes defining component requirements, selecting and validating components, evaluating system performance, developing layouts, and preparing assembly instructions. You will also monitor project status, engage with suppliers, provide root cause analysis, and support manufacturing and field service teams. Your typical day will involve leading design reviews, executing project milestones, participating in planning, and generating engineering documents.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with compressed air systems on mobile equipment.
  • Experience with compressed air system application in rail industry.
  • Experience selecting and testing compressors, air dryers, filters, and valves (mechanical and electro-pneumatic).
  • Experience in compressed air piping layout & integration.
  • Experience in writing test plans, executing tests, and interpreting test data.
  • Experience providing status and findings to customers and leadership.
Must Have:

  • Facilitate locomotive testing for compressed air design validation.
  • Provide mentorship and project guidance with peers.
  • Work with field service teams to address reliability and maintenance issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in compressed air system application and/or component design.

Who will you be working with?

Our best-in-class Compressed Air team maintains deep domain expertise related to the entire compressed air sub-system performance. Here you’ll interact with various internal and external customers to transform compressed air performance across the transportation industry. Our global team consist of engineers that work together to address real word challenges, create customer specific solutions, and develop innovative & reliable products.

How will you make a difference?

As an Advanced Lead Engineer within the compressed air team, you will be responsible for concept development, detail design work, and validation activities for the compressed air sub-systems and components used in the rail industry. This includes:

  • Defining component level requirements to meet system performance and reliability requirements.
  • Selecting and validating compressed air system components to meet requirements.
  • Evaluating and testing system dynamic performance and reliability.
  • Developing locomotive compressed air system layouts while working with a global cross functional team to integrate into a completed locomotive.
  • Developing and preparing instructions for assembly methods and constraints.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.
  • Engage with suppliers to perform concept and detailed performance and reliability analysis.
  • Support the sourcing function in development and execution of strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Provide root cause analysis leadership interfacing with leadership and customer.
  • Assist manufacturing team with producibility and troubleshooting activities uncovered during pilot builds.
  • Work with drafting organization on drawing development and routing details.
  • Facilitate locomotive testing for compressed air design validation.
  • Provide mentorship and project guidance with peers.
  • Work with field service teams to address reliability and maintenance issues in a timely manner.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience in compressed air system application and/or component design

What will your typical day look like?

  • Lead detailed design reviews with internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Execute on assigned project milestones, with guidance from senior engineering resources, specifically - analysis, design, test, and integration tasks.
  • Monitoring and communicating project status, business issues, and significant developments – to direct management and cross functional organization.
  • Participate in project planning and contribute to the overall program strategy – Scope/effort review, TG planning, EDOT schedules, etc.
  • Developing and preparing instructions & procedures for assembly and validation activities, review and interpret test data for business decisions.
  • Collaborate with peers on best practices, knowledge sharing, personal technical growth, issue resolution and resource assistance as needed.
  • Provide miscellaneous technical support to extended organization - sales, quality, manufacturing, and marketing teams.
  • Support factory for build issue resolution, validation troubleshooting, and procedural documentation as needed.
  • Provide root cause analysis interfacing within team, leadership and potentially customer.
  • Validate new components and subassemblies, author & release of drawings and specifications.
  • Generate engineering documents (DFMEA, Design Review materials, Purchase Specs, Meeting Notes, Detailed presentations, etc.)
