As an API Product Owner at SmartBear, you will work with the Product Manager to drive the delivery of SaaS and On-Premise API design and documentation platforms. Responsibilities include translating product strategy into actionable work for engineering teams, ensuring customer-facing solutions with clear documentation. Collaborating with technical writers to ensure deliverables are well-documented and accessible is crucial. The role involves refining and prioritizing the product backlog, managing the day-to-day product development process, ensuring smooth and timely delivery, and acting as a bridge between technical teams and stakeholders. Gathering feedback from users and supporting go-to-market efforts are also essential.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner in software development.
  • Experience working on SaaS and On-Premise software products.
  • Ability to liaise with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and tools such as Jira.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver detailed user stories and specifications.
Good to have:
  • Background in software development or systems engineering.
  • Experience working with OpenAPI, Swagger, GraphQL or AsyncAPIs.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of enterprise deployment scenarios and customer IT environments.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes and containerized deployment practices

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Product Owner to join our dynamic product team. In this role, you will partner closely with the Product Manager to drive the delivery of both our SaaS and On-Premise API design and documentation platform. This includes working with modern technologies such as Kubernetes for deployment and orchestration.

You will be responsible for translating product strategy into actionable work for engineering teams, ensuring high-quality, customer-facing solutions with strong documentation. Collaboration with technical writers will be critical to ensure all deliverables are clearly documented and accessible to end-users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to refine and prioritize the product backlog based on customer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility.
  • Own the day-to-day product development process, including writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, and managing sprint planning and review.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to ensure smooth and timely delivery of both SaaS and on-prem solutions.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and clarity on product direction.
  • Collaborate with technical writers to ensure all new features, APIs, and updates are documented clearly for external users.
  • Support go-to-market efforts by providing input for customer communications, release notes, and training materials.
  • Continuously gather feedback from internal and external users to refine and improve the product.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience as a Product Owner or similar role in a software development environment.
  • Proven experience working on SaaS and On-Premise software products.
  • Experience in API design, developer tools, or documentation platforms is highly desirable.
  • Ability to liaise with cross-functional teams including engineering, documentation, sales, support, and marketing.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Product Board or similar.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver detailed user stories and specifications that drive quality and customer-centric solutions.

Nice to Have:

  • Background in software development or systems engineering.
  • Experience working with OpenAPI, Swagger, GraphQL or AsyncAPIs.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of enterprise deployment scenarios and customer IT environments.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes and containerized deployment practices
