Job Description

The BMS Senior Applications Engineer will provide expert-level application engineering and system support to design, develop, coordinate, deliver, manage, and evolve BMS/EPMS systems, hardware, and software standards. This role involves advanced configuration of WebCTRL, development of complex control programming, and graphical interfaces. The engineer will conduct in-depth technical reviews of building automation system submittals, ensure compliance with IMDC standards, and review complex sequences of operations based on HVAC principles. They will also perform validation testing, review functional testing, and mentor team members, identifying project opportunities and risks.
Must have:
  • Conduct in-depth technical reviews of building automation system submittals.
  • Review associated project documentation for compliance.
  • Communicate design issues with Project Manager and field team.
  • Review complex sequence of operations based on HVAC principles.
  • Advanced configuration of WebCTRL system using SiteBuilder.
  • Development of complex control programming using Eikon.
  • Development of graphical and text-based interfaces using Eikon and ViewBuilder.
  • Perform validation testing of programming and interfaces.
  • Review functional testing and commissioning of complex building systems.
  • Review final documentation of the building automation system.
  • Thoroughly understand electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Capable of designing and programming any project executed by Automated Logic.
  • Able to interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visio (or other CAD software).
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals.
  • Extensive knowledge of third-party communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON, N2).
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise IP networks.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Excellent time management skills.

The BMS Senior Applications Engineer will provide expert-level application engineering and system support required to design, develop, coordinate, deliver, manage, and evolve BMS/EPMS systems, hardware and software standards, programming, graphics, add-ons, and tools to support and enhance our growing business.

What you will do

  • Conduct in-depth technical reviews of building automation system submittals including the specification and sizing of valves, controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes and IMDC standards;
  • Conduct reviews of other associated project documentation such as bid specifications, equipment shop-drawings, and mechanical and electrical drawings for compliance with the IMDC design standards, and to identify any equipment compatibility issues and design discrepancies;
  • Clearly communicate any issues with the design of the BMS/EPMS, design or configuration of the proposed mechanical and electrical equipment, proposed equipment shop-drawings, plans and specifications, or customer design requirements with the Project Manager and field team to provide a cost-effective design solution, as well as provide alternate design recommendations to engineering consultants for clarification/approval;
  • Reviewing complex sequence of operations based on HVAC principles that relate to temperature, humidity and flow control (both hydronic and air flow) and according to building codes and ASHRAE standards, and providing feedback and input to the design team including suggested modifications, and provide approval when IMDC standards are met;
  • Advanced configuration of the WebCTRL system using SiteBuilder, development of complex control programming including those that include third-party integration using Eikon, development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems using Eikon and ViewBuilder.
  • Perform validation testing of programming and interfaces before deployment, review functional testing and commissioning of complex building systems such as chiller plants and large 3rd party integrations to ensure adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
  • Review final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal, accept project turnover (when complete),
  • Mentorship and development of other team members.
  • Identification and communication of project opportunities and risks related to cost, time, and technical considerations.
  • Conducting site visits and collaborating with clients and contractors on technical issues

What you will bring

  • Thoroughly understands electrical and mechanical building systems. Capable of designing and programming any project executed by Automated Logic, regardless of complexity. Able to understand, write, and recommend modifications to sequences of operation for the automation of all building systems.
  • Automated Logic WebCTRL (10 years experience )
  • Able to interpret plans (including architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints), specifications, and contract documents to deliver compliant but optimized designs.
  • Able to concisely, accurately, and effectively request clarifications to technical or scope information via a formal request for information process.
  • Able to provide direction and guidance to other team members and lead project teams.
  • Well-organized and able to balance multiple concurrent priorities by communicating and negotiating due dates and deliverables
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable). Comprehensive working knowledge of Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
  • Extensive knowledge of third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, LON, N2, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise IP networks, including layout and troubleshooting.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving even when troubleshooting remotely. Excellent time management skills including the ability to accurately estimate the time required to complete tasks and deliver on the committed timeline.
