Fortune is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to join their London team, focusing on growing the UK and European business. The role involves generating new business, managing client relationships, and achieving sales goals. Responsibilities include building and maintaining a qualified pipeline, executing outreach strategies, driving conversion rates, delivering sales forecasts, and closing strategic deals. The role also requires impactful client meetings, developing retention strategies, providing timely solutions, and maintaining an organized CRM system (Salesforce). Additionally, the candidate will develop expert knowledge of media solutions, stay updated on industry trends, use data for persuasive proposals, and adapt to new tools. Collaboration with marketing, editorial, and product teams is essential, along with sharing insights for product development and contributing to team sales strategies.

Job Overview  

Fortune is looking for a commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our London team. This role is key to supporting the growth of our UK and European business. You will be responsible for generating new business, managing client relationships, and helping to deliver against quarterly and annual sales goals and other duties as directed by the management. 

Working closely with colleagues across the UK and Europe, as well as our marketing teams in London, Asia, and New York, you'll help develop compelling proposals and support the delivery of tailored commercial solutions for clients.

Key Responsibilities 

Sales Execution & Pipeline Management 

  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of high-value prospects, ensuring continuous deal flow. 
  • Execute a structured outreach strategy through cold calls, warm introductions, and strategic networking. 
  • Drive conversion rates by proactively following up on client interactions and advancing deals through the sales funnel. 
  • Deliver accurate weekly sales forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities to maximize revenue. 
  • Close large, multi-platform, and strategic deals that contribute to company growth.

 

Client Engagement & Responsiveness 

  • Conduct impactful client meetings, demonstrating a deep understanding of their business challenges and opportunities. 
  • Develop and execute client retention strategies that maximize renewal and upsell potential. 
  • Provide timely, solution-driven responses to client inquiries, ensuring a seamless experience from pitch to contract. 
  • Maintain an organised CRM system (Salesforce), tracking all interactions, follow-ups, and deal progress with precision. 

 

Product Mastery & Market Intelligence 

  • Develop expert-level knowledge of our media solutions, articulating their business impact with confidence. 
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive moves, and emerging opportunities to refine sales strategies. 
  • Use data-driven storytelling and audience insights to craft persuasive proposals that drive client buy-in. 
  • Rapidly adapt to new tools and platforms, applying best practices to enhance sales performance. 

 

Collaboration & Team Contribution 

  • Align sales efforts with marketing, editorial, and product teams to deliver high-value, customised client solutions. 
  • Share insights from client interactions to inform product development and market positioning
  • Actively contribute to team sales strategies, providing mentorship and best practice sharing to optimise performance. 
  • Manage internal expectations by keeping stakeholders informed on deal status, potential risks, and revenue impact

 

Drive & Commercial Instinct 

  • Identify high-potential opportunities, flagging strategic accounts and industry trends that could drive new revenue streams. 
  • Pinpoint and execute upsell and cross-sell opportunities, maximizing client lifetime value. 
  • Show resilience and adaptability, staying focused under pressure and overcoming obstacles with a problem-solving mindset. 
  • Demonstrate a bias for action, taking ownership of targets and driving momentum in every deal. 

 

Your Experience & Attributes 

  • A proven track record of exceeding sales targets in the financial media sector. 
  • At least 4 years of experience in media sales, with expertise in digital media, custom content, print, and event sponsorships. 
  • Exceptional communication & negotiation skills, with the ability to influence C-level stakeholders. 
  • A highly organized, results-driven approach, ensuring deals move swiftly from prospecting to closing. 
  • Strong analytical skills, using data to make informed sales decisions and improve client strategies. 

Requirements   

  • Availability to work in the London office 5 days a week  
  • Must have authorisation to work in the UK.
