Job Description

POLITICO is seeking a Communications Trainee for its Global Communications team, starting September 2025, for a minimum of six months. The role is based in Brussels and aims to provide hands-on experience in communications tactics to boost brand awareness. The trainee will collaborate with colleagues in London and Washington D.C., as well as internal departments like Editorial, Events, and Sales. Key responsibilities include daily media monitoring and analysis across Europe, the UK, and the US, pitching stories to other media outlets, enhancing media lists, drafting award submissions, supporting media partnerships and external speaking engagements, assisting with internal communications, and providing general support to the communications team, including staffing events.
Must have:
  • Keen interest in communications, EU, UK, US politics, news, and media.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Creativity, adaptability, and teamwork ability.
  • Right to work in the EU.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of other languages.

Communications Trainee

COMPANY: POLITICO 

POLITICO is looking for a Communications Trainee to join the Global Communications team starting in September 2025 for a minimum period of six months. Applicants are encouraged to apply by 25th of July 2025.

Based in our European headquarters in Brussels, you will gain first-hand experience in communications tactics to drive brand awareness. 

As part of this role, the successful applicant will work alongside colleagues in London and Washington D.C. as well as various departments across POLITICO, including Editorial, Events and Sales.  


What You’ll Do: 

  • Daily reporting and monitoring and analysis on who is talking about POLITICO and where our stories are being picked up in Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States. 
  • Supporting our communications team by pitching stories to other news companies, TV and radio.
  • Continuous improvement of our media lists, to ensure we’re engaging meaningfully with external media. 
  • Drafting compelling and well-researched awards submissions to highlight the organization's achievements and enhance its recognition within the industry. 
  • Working alongside Marketing and Events, support our team with the execution of media partnerships.
  • Assist with overseeing external speaking engagements, including research and relevant approvals.
  • Helping the team with internal communications initiatives.
  • General support for our communications team, including staffing events.


What You'll Need: 

  • A keen interest in communications as well as in EU, UK and US politics, news and media. 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • Creativity, adaptability, and ability to work collaboratively with a team. 
  • Hold the right to work in the EU.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken. Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
