Job Description

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Linux Internals Software Engineer for their Tel Aviv R&D center. This role focuses on providing expert-level development for customer issues, utilizing deep knowledge of Linux internals to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve critical problems. The engineer will directly impact customer success and contribute to the development of the Cortex XDR endpoint security product. Responsibilities include acting as a technical expert, debugging user-space and kernel-mode components, collaborating with support, leading resolution with other teams, and contributing to internal tooling and automation.
Good To Have:
  • Familiarity with multiple Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu, etc).
  • Experience with containers, Docker, k8s, and/or Linux namespaces.
  • Experience with software security and/or Linux Security modules (SELinux, AppArmor, etc).
  • Linux kernel programming experience.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for problem-solving and a customer-first mindset.
  • Experience reviewing colleagues' code and providing constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, thriving in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Must Have:

  • Lead resolution in coordination with other development and QA teams.

  • Knowledge of Linux internals, including system calls, process management, and memory management.
  • Very strong system-programming skills in C / C++.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux system-level debugging and programming.
  • Proven expertise in using debugging tools on various Linux platforms.
  • Experience with multi-threaded application development and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to interact directly with customers.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience.

Your Impact

  • Act as a technical expert and the primary point of contact for complex, customer-reported issues.

Your Experience

  • Knowledge of Linux internals, including system calls, process management, and memory management.
  • Very strong system-programming skills in C / C++.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux system-level debugging and programming.
  • Proven expertise in using debugging tools on various Linux platforms.
  • Experience with multi-threaded application development and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to interact directly with customers in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience required.

Preferred
