Job Summary
CME Group is seeking motivated students for a Cyber Defense Monitoring Intern position for Summer 2026. This role is within the Global Information Security (GIS) Department, specifically the Cyber Defense Monitoring (CDM) team, which focuses on protecting CME Group from cyber attacks. The intern will assist in monitoring the network for anomalies, performing threat analysis, and enhancing threat detection capabilities, contributing to a safe and secure financial technology environment.
Must Have
- Currently pursuing a college/university degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or another related field
- Proven, demonstrable experience or skills in cybersecurity via CTF, hacking platforms, school projects or home labs
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Team-oriented with a desire to collaborate
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Good to Have
- Experience with Python, Google Chronicle, ArcSight, Splunk
- Previous work with cloud services (GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Experience with identity toolsets such as LDAP, multi-factor authentication, and privileged identity management
- Experience with network protocols
- Work/internship experience in areas like digital forensics, incident response, security engineering, and/or cloud security
- Experience with machine learning and/or statistical analysis methods

Job Description

The Global Information Security (GIS) Department is a critical component of the Technology Division and is focused on delivering a safe and secure environment for the operation of our markets. The Cyber Defense Monitoring (CDM) team sits within GIS and focuses on monitoring cyber attacks against CME Group. The CDM intern will work alongside the team helping to defend against cyber threats. They will be responsible for assisting with monitoring the network for anomalies, performing threat analysis, and helping to enhance threat detection capabilities.

We are committed to offering a competitive pay package for our employee interns. The pay ranges for this role based on location are: Chicago: $21.10--$35.14 New York/New Jersey: $23.17--$38.65. Actual pay offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education, location of the internship, and the internship area of focus.
