Job Description

Motive is seeking a passionate Business Intelligence (BI) Data Engineer to bridge complex data with business domains like Sales, Marketing, and Operations. This role involves empowering teams with accurate, reliable, and insightful analytical datasets to drive critical business decisions. Responsibilities include designing and developing robust data models in Snowflake using dbt and advanced SQL, building and managing data pipelines with Airflow and Python, and implementing rigorous data governance. The engineer will also empower teams with clean data using BI tools like Tableau and Retool, and actively integrate AI tools to enhance analytics.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark
  • Direct experience with advanced Snowflake features (Snowpark, Cortex AI)
  • Experience building visualizations and dashboards in Tableau, Retool, or Thoughtspot
  • Experience as a data analyst delivering insights to business users
Must Have:
  • 6+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering or Data Engineering
  • Deep expertise in SQL and developing complex data models
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, AWS, Python, Fivetran, Airbyte
  • Strong analytical mindset to solve ambiguous business problems
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to self-project manage work
  • User focus to understand data consumer needs

About the Role:

We are looking for a passionate and driven Business Intelligence (BI) Data Engineer to join our growing team. In this pivotal role, you will act as the bridge between our complex data and our business domains, including Sales, Marketing, and Operations. You will be responsible for empowering these teams with accurate, reliable, and insightful analytical datasets that drive critical business decisions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner closely with business stakeholders like IT, Customer Support, Marketing, Employee Engagement to understand their challenges and translate requirements into a scalable data architecture.
  • Design, develop, and own robust, efficient, and scalable data models in Snowflake using dbt and advanced SQL.
  • Build and manage reliable data pipelines using tools like Airflow and Python to ensure data is fresh and trustworthy.
  • Implement rigorous testing, documentation, and data governance practices to maintain a single source of truth.
  • Empower teams with clean data and well-structured models, enabling them to make data-driven decisions using BI tools like Tableau and Retool.
  • Actively explore and integrate AI tools (like Snowflake Cortex AI) to improve data processes, enhance analytics, and uncover deeper insights.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 6+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or a similar role.
  • Deep expertise in SQL and developing complex data models for analytical purposes (e.g., dimensional modeling).
  • Hands-on experience with the modern data stack:
  • Data Warehousing: Snowflake, BiqQuery Redshift, Databricks (Snowflake preferred)
  • Data Transformation: dbt
  • Orchestration: Airflow
  • Cloud Platform: AWS
  • Programming/Ingestion: Python (especially for API integration), Fivetran, Airbyte
  • A strong analytical mindset with a proven ability to solve ambiguous business problems with data.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working cross-functionally.
  • Self-starter with the ability to self-project manage work
  • A user focus with the ability to understand how a data consumer will use the data products you build

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark.
  • Direct experience with advanced Snowflake features (e.g., Snowpark, Cortex AI).
  • Experience building visualizations and dashboards in tools like Tableau, Retool, or Thoughtspot.
