Job Summary
The Data Governance Manager establishes and enforces the organization's data governance and data quality framework. This role involves leading a team to develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and usability. Responsibilities include working cross-functionally to promote a data-driven culture, managing data quality initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and overseeing metadata and asset management. The manager will also lead the Data Governance Council and develop training programs.
Must Have
- Develop, maintain, and evolve the enterprise Data Governance Framework, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Establish, operate, and lead the Data Governance Council and Steering Committees.
- Define, formalize, and manage the Data Owner network.
- Oversee the development, definition, and monitoring of data quality standards, rules, and metrics.
- Ensure organizational compliance with relevant data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
- Lead the development and maintenance of the Data Asset Inventory, Business Glossary, and Metadata management processes.
- Collaborate closely with Data Architecture, IT, and Engineering teams for system alignment.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training and data literacy programs.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Data Governance Officer, Data Quality Officers, and data literacy coordinators.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business, Computer Science, Data, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data management disciplines (data governance, metadata, master data, data quality, compliance).
- Proven track record implementing data governance frameworks, data quality frameworks, data ownership models / stewardship, data standards and definitions.
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance (GDPR, privacy, retention, audit, security policies).
- Familiarity with governance & catalog tools.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives with business and IT stakeholders.

About the Role
The Data Governance Manager establishes and enforces the organization's data governance and data quality framework. You will lead a team of a data governance officer and data quality officers who will develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, security, and usability of data. This role requires working cross-functionally to promote a data-driven culture, manage data quality initiatives, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Data Governance Strategy & Framework: Develop, maintain, and continually evolve the enterprise Data Governance Framework, policies, standards, and procedures across the data lifecycle.
- Governance Structure & Reporting: Establish, operate, and lead the Data Governance Council and Steering Committees, including managing meeting agendas, driving key decisions, and tracking action items.
- Data Ownership & Accountability: Define, formalize, and manage the Data Owner network across all business units, ensuring clear roles, accountabilities (RACI), and decision rights.
- Data Quality Management: Oversee the development, definition, and monitoring of data quality standards, rules, and metrics (DQIs) for critical data elements. Collaborate with data management, data owners and IT to identify root causes of data quality issues and implement effective remediation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk: Ensure organizational compliance with all relevant data privacy regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other industry-specific compliance requirements.
- Metadata and Asset Management: Lead the development and maintenance of the Data Asset Inventory, Business Glossary, and Metadata management processes.
- Architecture and Systems Alignment: Collaborate closely with Data Architecture, IT, and Engineering teams to ensure new and existing data platforms and systems are designed and configured in full alignment with data governance policies and standards.
- Culture, Education, & Team Leadership: Develop and deliver comprehensive training and data literacy programs to raise awareness of data governance principles and best practices
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of a Data Governance Officer, Data Quality Officers and data literacy coordinators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Business, Computer Science, Data, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data management disciplines (data governance, metadata, master data, data quality, compliance).
- Experience working in or with enterprise data functions
- Proven track record implementing: Data governance frameworks, Data quality frameworks, Data ownership models / stewardship, Data standards and definitions
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance (GDPR, privacy, retention, audit, security policies).
- Familiarity with governance & catalog tools
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives with business and IT stakeholders.
- Experience in change management, communication, or training is a strong advantage.
