Job Description

The FSI Data Scientist will identify complex fraud patterns through data mining, machine learning, AI, graph data science, and the development of internal investigative software. Your research will seek to connect seemingly disparate fraud trends that are perpetrated by sophisticated threat groups and track them across the enterprise. This work supports PayPal’s Global Financial Crimes organization by enhancing fraud risk controls, recovering funds from networks of bad actors, and by furnishing timely intelligence data, at scale, to pinpoint abusive activity on the platform. The role involves developing and deploying algorithms, driving research in graph theory and AI, mentoring team members, applying statistical methods, and improving FSI tools. The role also includes identifying opportunities to extend FSI linking solutions with internal partners’ technology stacks for holistic fraud prevention.

Job Description:

This work supports PayPal’s Global Financial Crimes organization by enhancing fraud risk controls, recovering funds from networks of bad actors, and by furnishing timely intelligence data, at scale, to pinpoint abusive activity on the platform.

Your day to day will include:
  • Develop and deploy algorithms for linking, clustering, and pattern recognition based on various attributes.
  • Drive research and implementation of advanced methods in graph theory, community detection, and AI. Lead the design of graph based models.
  • Mentor team members on graph modeling, fraud detection techniques, and scalable data science practices.
  • Apply statistical methods for combining multiple data points to identify fraud patterns.
  • Create and select relevant features from raw data for use in FSI’s fraud linking framework.
  • Continuously improve the speed, reliability, and scalability of FSI tools.
  • Leverage partner teams’ investigative findings to rapidly deploy new fraud identification techniques.
  • Identify opportunities to extend FSI linking solutions with internal partners’ technology stacks for holistic fraud prevention.
  • Lead FSI’s engagement with PayPal’s data science and technology organizations.
  • Continually research new cutting edge technologies and AI that can be implemented to enhance products and processes
     
Required Skills:
  • Skilled in performing exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  • Proficient in cleaning and preprocessing large datasets to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong SQL experience to create, maintain, and optimize complex queries and database structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python. Experience with libraries and tools for string processing and pattern recognition.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and latest AI technologies.
  • Understanding of financially motivated cybercrime trends and typologies.
  • Team player, energetic personality, curious, able to work efficiently in a fast paced, changing environment.
