Job Description

Flock Safety is a leading technology solution dedicated to eliminating crime and enhancing community safety through an intelligent platform. They partner with cities, businesses, schools, and law enforcement to provide comprehensive, maintenance-free technology that solves and deters crime. With over $700M in venture capital and a $7.5B valuation, Flock is expanding to reduce US crime by 25% in three years. This role seeks an experienced legal leader to scale the commercial, transactional, and governance functions, developing talent, managing resources, and implementing upgraded processes to support internal and external stakeholders.
Must have:
  • Ten-plus years of in-house legal experience in fast-paced, innovative environments.
  • Strong focus on commercial contracts, preferably with SaaS experience.
  • Experience managing legal aspects of M&A transactions.
  • Strong record of partnership with internal stakeholders, enabling business and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with private and public governance structures and norms.
  • Passion for and dedication to management and mentorship of junior attorneys.
  • Establish key internal relationships and lay foundation for partnership model of legal service within 30 days.
  • Fully establish staffing, tooling, and process revamp plan, achieve stakeholder buy-in, and take substantial implementation steps within 60 days.
  • Have a fully staffed commercial, transactions, and governance function with established policies and processes within 90 days.

The Opportunity

Flock’s scope, size, and maturity require seasoned leadership capable of helping the business to scale into the next phase of our growth. We require an experienced legal leader capable of taking the commercial, transactional, and governance functions of the legal department to the next level, by upskilling and developing internal talent, hiring strategically, efficiently managing outside counsel and other resources, and directing the implementation of upgraded processes and tooling to serve our internal stakeholders and Flock’s external clients and partners in a collaborative, business-enabling way.

The Skillset

  • Ten-plus years of in-house legal experience, working in fast-paced, highly-collaborative, innovative environments that demand business-orientation, flexibility, creativity, and determination.
  • Strong focus on commercial contracts, preferably with SaaS experience, and a willingness and ability to be a player coach for more junior commercial attorneys.
  • Experience managing the legal aspects of M&A transactions; passion for finding and implementing creative structures to achieve business objectives.
  • A strong record of partnership with internal stakeholders, with a reputation for business enablement and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with both private and public governance structures and norms; experience in transition(s) between the two frameworks preferred.
  • Passion for and dedication to management and mentorship of more junior attorneys and legal professionals.
  • A delightful, friendly, collaborative personality and approach, with a history of being told “you don’t seem like a lawyer!”

The First 30 Days

  • Establish key internal relationships and lay foundation for partnership model of legal service

The First 60 Days

  • Your staffing, tooling, and process revamp plan should be fully established, stakeholder buy-in achieved, and substantial steps toward implementation taken.

90 Days & Beyond

  • We should have a fully staffed commercial, transactions, and governance function, with policies and processes established or in-flight to enable rapid scaling.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $325,000 and $385,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.

At Flock Safety, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. The range above is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.
