Disney Cruise Line is seeking a Director, Electrical Technical Operations to lead an international shoreside and shipboard team. This role is accountable for all electrical technical and automation operations, repairs, and maintenance for the entire fleet and private island destinations. The Director will ensure compliance with international and company policies, develop strategic plans, manage budgets, and oversee maintenance and new build projects. The position requires a leader who can inspire teams, maintain high technical standards, and drive continuous improvement in electrical operations.
Must have:
  • Lead international shoreside and shipboard technical teams.
  • Accountable for electrical technical/automation operations, repairs, and maintenance for fleet and islands.
  • Ensure compliance with international, flag state, port state, and company policies.
  • Inspire, lead, coach, and develop Engineering Operations leaders and Maintenance Managers.
  • Maintain high-level Engineering Operations and technical standards.
  • Serve as liaison with USCG, Lloyd's Register, and United States Public Health (USPH).
  • Develop vision and strategic plan for all electrical operations.
  • Manage operations, planning & execution of long-term maintenance plans for electrical systems.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of departmental budgets and major projects.
  • Serve as resource for dry dock, wet dock, and other planned maintenance efforts.
  • Oversee repairs and maintenance of all ships’ electrical systems.
  • Ensure construction or equipment changes are coordinated with appropriate authorities.
  • Assess efficiency of ships’ electrical plant and propose long-term investment plans.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions on relevant electrical issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical research and evaluate new technology for use onboard.
  • Research, assess, and implement approved electrical equipment for ships and new builds.
  • Assist new build team with equipment suppliers and system design decisions.
  • Oversee electrical guarantee matters for new ships.
  • Prevent non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality system in Marine Electrical.
  • Represent DCL as principal integrator with class society for electrical technical subjects.
  • Assure compliance for electrical technical aspects of applicable requirements.
  • Oversee management of maintenance ensuring proper documentation is up-to-date.
  • Provide shore-based assistance for Ship Masters and Officers for safe operations.
  • Arrange dry dock schedules in coordination with relevant teams.
  • Oversee electrical technical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Responsible for corrective measures for reported defects and follow-up actions.
  • Develop and implement new processes and update existing ones for engineering and technical entertainment.
  • Partner with ships to comply with Safety Management System.
  • Responsible for upgrade, implementation, and training of AMOS.
  • Keep abreast of relevant technical expertise and industry trends.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Technical Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for inspiring, leading, coaching and developing talented teams of shipboard and shoreside Engineering Operations leaders and Maintenance Managers at Disney Cruise Line’s private destinations.
  • Maintain Disney Cruise Line’s high level Engineering Operations and technical standards and serve as a liaison with the USCG, Lloyd's Register, and United States Public Health (USPH).
  • Develop a vision and strategic plan for all electrical operations in support of Disney Cruise Line’s operational goals.
  • Responsible for the operations, planning & execution of long-term maintenance plans for all electrical systems, such as:
  • Power generation plant
  • Main Switchboards
  • High/Low Voltage systems
  • Propulsion plant, including AZIPODS
  • Navigation Systems
  • Automation systems
  • UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) systems
  • Shipboard Network
  • MOB (Man Overboard Systems)
  • Responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of budgets for the department and all major projects as well as prioritizing a comprehensive budget balancing safety, ship and Guest needs.
  • Serve as a resource for dry dock, wet dock and other planned maintenance efforts and lead projects as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all ships’ electrical systems and oversee dry dock planning and technical budgets of the Deck, Engine and Hotel departments.
  • Ensure any change to the construction or equipment onboard is coordinated with appropriate flag state, class association, or other government bodies.
  • Assess efficiency of the ships’ electrical plant and propose long-term investment plans for the operation.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions on relevant electrical issues aligned with industry trends and standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of up-to-date technical research and relevant projects, evaluate new technology for use onboard the ships and islands, and run test programs on such equipment together with ships’ personnel.
  • Research, assess, and implement approved electrical equipment for use onboard the ships as well as creating designs and recommendations for future ships’ enhancements and new build.
  • Assist new build team with equipment suppliers and system design decisions. Oversee the electrical guarantee matters for the new ships.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality system in the Marine Electrical area of responsibility.
  • Represent DCL as the designated principal integrator between the company and class society for electrical technical related subjects.
  • Assure compliance for the electrical technical aspects of applicable Flag State, Port State, International, and Classification Society resolutions & requirements, including Continuous Machinery Survey (CMS) and Continuous Hull Survey (CHS).
  • Oversee management of maintenance of ships and private island destinations ensuring proper documentation is up-to-date in company’s approved maintenance system.
  • Provide shore-based assistance for Ship Masters and their Officers to maintain safe ship operations.
  • Arrange dry dock schedules in coordination with dry dock team and Disney Cruise Line’s commercial, finance and operational teams.
  • Oversee electrical technical drawings and equipment manuals; ensure all are up-to-date and archived in company approved system of record.
  • Responsible for corrective measures necessary to redress defects reported by ships and private island destinations and ensure corrections are reported to the appropriate authorities, Continuous Improvement Reports (CIRs) are completed, audits are conducted, and follow-up action is completed.
  • Responsible for operational standards including developing and implementing new processes as well as updating existing processes for engineering and technical entertainment.
  • Partner with ships to comply with Safety Management System for all areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for the upgrade, implementation, and training of Automated Maintenance and Purchasing System (AMOS) for the Marine & Technical and Entertainment departments.
  • Keep abreast of relevant technical expertise and industry trends, identify and formulate new strategic moves in response to the new trends.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years sea-going and/or ship management marine or electrical engineering leadership experience
  • Deep expertise working within shipboard and shoreside operational experience, with a focus on Marine Electro Technical Leadership
  • Demonstrated authentic, persuasive and inclusive leader with a track record of coaching, mentoring, training and developing a diverse highly skilled and collaborative team
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale projects ensuring successful delivery of outcomes
  • Proven ability to work across teams & navigate complex multi-stakeholder environments across the organization
  • Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships with key leaders in technical and cruise industry
  • Highly motivated self-starter with proven track record of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment with limited direction
  • Flexibility and proficiency in ambiguity and leading teams through changes in strategic direction and/or priorities
  • Demonstrated critical thinker with the ability to solve complex problems through thoughtful and validated analysis with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Flexible and available 24/7 including weekends and holidays to support the operations as needed
  • Willingness and availability to travel, as needed
  • Possesses unquestioned ethics and integrity

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering discipline or equivalent
  • MBA
