The opportunity
As a Director in the Foundation Engineering group, you will join a team which is responsible for the very core of Unity's product development. This team is fundamental to Unity, producing need-to-have output which has far-reaching implications for Unity as a whole. The group you will be leading is accountable for asset and scene packaging, distribution, serialization and management within our Unity Engine and Editor. You will together with your group maintain our existing systems and build a scalable, performant and extensible technology platform for the future.
As a successful Director in Foundation Engineering, you will have the ability to impact user happiness, employee satisfaction, our product, projects and strategic plans. In your everyday work, you will make critical decisions that span multiple teams and domains, iterate on ideas with a wide range of collaborators, work with multiple feedback channels, and continuously learn.
As a leader, you are there to serve your team and help cultivate talent, deliver team results, and collaborate across teams. The Content Pipeline group is primarily located in Austin USA, Montreal Canada and Copenhagen Denmark. Some traveling will be required while most collaboration is online.
What you’ll be doing
Leading a highly skilled engineering group of around 50 people focusing on people, technology and outcomes
Delivering quality outcomes through your teams, while collaborating with key partners in product management, program management and design
Provide clarity of direction for teams though establishing short and mid-term strategies for delivering established objectives
Build a culture of accountability, empowerment, problem-solving capability and predictability founded on trust
What we’re looking for
Extensive experience in engineering leadership roles with accountability for multiple teams
Excellent communication skill and work ethics to collaborate with other engineering groups, partner functions and other Unity teams to drive successful quality releases
Excellent people-first leadership skill
Experience with technical direction involving content distribution and ingestion pipelines
Willingness to grow as a person, leader, colleague and contributor by soliciting feedback and giving that gift to others
You might also have
Experience with leading and helping teams through fast paced change where direction is not always clear
Game or film development experience (Unity engine or otherwise)
Development background using C++ and C#
