PeopleFun is seeking a Director of Data Science who will be responsible for building and leading our data science department. You will develop a strategic roadmap and establish best practices for leveraging data to enhance player engagement, monetization, and retention. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both technical expertise and strategic vision. The role involves developing models for player behavior, optimizing monetization and retention, designing A/B tests, collaborating on data infrastructure, and communicating insights to leadership.
Must have:
  • Design and implement the data science roadmap, aligning with business objectives.
  • Develop models and algorithms to analyze player behavior, predict churn, and optimize in-game experiences.
  • Use data-driven techniques to enhance monetization strategies (e.g., in-app purchases, ad revenue) and improve player retention.
  • Design, implement, and analyze A/B tests to evaluate game features and marketing strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish robust data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Work cross-functionally with product managers, game designers, and marketing teams to integrate data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop dashboards and reports to communicate key insights to leadership.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in data science, gaming analytics, and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Department Creation & Strategy: Design and implement the data science roadmap, aligning with business objectives.
  • Game & Player Insights: Develop models and algorithms to analyze player behavior, predict churn, and optimize in-game experiences.
  • Monetization & Retention: Use data-driven techniques to enhance monetization strategies (e.g., in-app purchases, ad revenue) and improve player retention.
  • A/B Testing & Experimentation: Design, implement, and analyze A/B tests to evaluate game features and marketing strategies.
  • Data Infrastructure & Tools: Collaborate with engineering teams to establish robust data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with product managers, game designers, and marketing teams to integrate data-driven decision-making.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Develop dashboards and reports to communicate key insights to leadership.
  • Research: Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in data science, gaming analytics, and machine learning.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role. Gaming experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics.
  • Proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and experimentation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Passion for gaming and understanding of mobile game KPIs such as DAU, retention, ARPU, LTV, and churn.
