Job Summary

As the Director of Engineering, Enterprise Platform at SailPoint, you will lead a team of approximately 40 engineers, defining and executing the technical strategy for core services and innovation within the Atlas Platform. This role involves evolving platform architecture for scalability, reliability, and extensibility, championing API-first strategies, and driving execution across microservices, GraphQL APIs, event-driven pipelines, and AI/ML-integrated services. You will collaborate with various teams to deliver impactful solutions, manage stakeholder relationships, and align technical vision with business goals, contributing to SailPoint's leadership in Identity Security.

Must Have

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams building core platform components.
  • Define and evolve platform architecture for scalability, reliability, and extensibility.
  • Champion API-first and developer platform strategies.
  • Drive execution across microservices, GraphQL APIs, event-driven pipelines, and AI/ML-integrated services.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Security, and Field teams.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, aligning technical vision with business goals.
  • 10+ years in software engineering leadership roles.
  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, SaaS platforms, and large-scale data systems.
  • Experience with microservices, event-driven systems (Kafka/SQS), and containerized CI/CD (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Technical fluency at the architectural level; able to guide and challenge engineering decisions.
  • Proven ability to scale distributed systems for reliability and performance.
  • Strong background in API design, developer experience, and integration tooling.
  • Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j), AI/ML pipelines, and AWS cloud environments.

About the Role

As the Director of Engineering, Enterprise Platform, reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, Enterprise Platform, you will lead a team of approximately 40 engineers responsible for the core services and innovation driving the Atlas Platform. You will define and execute the technical strategy and architecture for scalable, externally facing platform components, directly impacting SailPoint's ability to deliver real-time access intelligence, policy automation, and extensibility at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams building core platform components: identity services, knowledge graphs, workflow engines, and data pipelines.
  • Define and evolve platform architecture for scalability, reliability, and extensibility.
  • Champion API-first and developer platform strategies, empowering our developer and partner ecosystem.
  • Drive execution across microservices, GraphQL APIs, event-driven pipelines, and AI/ML-integrated services.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Security, and Field teams to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, aligning technical vision with business goals.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in software engineering leadership roles, including managing backend/platform teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, SaaS platforms, and large-scale data systems.
  • Experience with microservices, event-driven systems (Kafka/SQS), and containerized CI/CD (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Technical fluency at the architectural level; able to guide and challenge engineering decisions.

Within the first 30 days:

  • Onboard into the Atlas platform and SailPoint’s technology stack.
  • Build relationships with team leads; assess strengths and development areas.
  • Deeply understand business problems and propose architectural solutions.
  • Interview stakeholders to align product roadmap and technical challenges.
  • Create a project schedule for team deliverables, maximizing impact.

By 90 days:

  • Motivate and challenge teams to achieve synergy and technical excellence.
  • Actively participate in technical decision-making for platform evolution.
  • Implement fast, iterative changes, and maintain regular stakeholder syncs.
  • Assist in developing a 2 to 3-year vision for scaling the Atlas platform and enhancing reliability.

By 6 months:
