Job Summary

KSBY is seeking an innovative Director of Engineering to lead its broadcast operations and shape the future of local media technology on California's Central Coast. This leadership role involves spearheading technical strategy, managing complex broadcast systems, developing next-generation digital workflows, and fostering a world-class engineering team. The Director will ensure the highest quality news and programming for the community, directly impacting how KSBY serves the Central Coast.

Must Have

  • Lead research, design, installation, and repair of television, digital, OTT, Internet, and high power RF systems.
  • Manage building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation, and security systems.
  • Partner with the news department to develop, build, and support content workflow and support systems.
  • Motivate and manage a staff of professional and technical engineers, operators, and IT technicians.
  • Establish and implement engineering policies and procedures.
  • Manage projects.
  • Plan, design, and document current and future broadcast and digital systems.
  • Prepare and track capital, expense, repair, and maintenance budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC Rules and Regulations, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance.

Good to Have

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience.
  • Generally, 10+ years of experience in related field.
  • Prior managerial experience.
  • Network, SBE, and/or Project Management certification.

KSBY is seeking an innovative Director of Engineering to spearhead our cutting-edge broadcast operations and build the future of local media technology. As our Director of Engineering, you'll be the driving force behind our technical excellence, leading a talented team of engineers and technicians while ensuring our community receives the highest quality news and programming. From managing complex broadcast systems to developing next-generation digital workflows, your leadership will directly impact how we serve the Central Coast community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Model and lead a culture of empathy, customer service and leadership.
  • Lead the research, design, installation and repair of all television, digital, OTT, Internet Systems, high power RF systems, production environments and all associated equipment using current platforms and protocols. Manage building facilities and grounds, including HVAC, power generation and security systems.
  • Partner with the news department to develop, build and support content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking and infrastructure while facilitating a collaborative environment between newsroom and production control staff.
  • Motivate and manage a staff of professional and technical engineers, operators and IT technicians. Develop and grow staff in technology and Scripps culture to meet the on-going and future technological needs of the station and evaluate staff growth opportunities and assessments.
  • Establish and implement engineering policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and maintain the spectrum and broadband usage of the facility.
  • Manage projects.
  • Plan, design and document current and future broadcast and digital systems.
  • Collaborate with other departments to determine current and future studio and transmission and workflow needs.
  • Prepare and track capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets.
  • Use company purchasing management system to purchase and track assets and services as well as replacement cycles.
  • Evaluate equipment solutions.
  • Keep the station compliant with the FCC Rules and Regulations, as well as related local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 10+ years of experience in related field preferred
  • Prior managerial experience preferred
  • Network, SBE and/or Project Management certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
