Job Description

Join Nine Publishing's Audience Engagement team as an Engagement Marketing Lead. This 12-month contract role focuses on driving subscriber engagement and retention for key news brands like The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times, and Good Food. You will lead initiatives, optimize lifecycle programs using data, manage CRM activities, and collaborate with editorial and product teams to deepen audience engagement with award-winning content. This role is critical in reinforcing subscription value throughout the audience lifecycle.
Must Have:
  • Lead and execute engagement initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Utilise data and insights to optimise the automated subscriber lifecycle program
  • Manage lifecycle activity across all channels, including EDM, paid media, and internal network assets
  • Ensure the CRM platform is leveraged to its full potential for sophisticated customer journeys and one-to-one communications
  • Work closely with editorial teams to amplify key content, such as newsletters and podcasts, to subscribers
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create unique subscriber experiences that build brand advocacy
  • Manage and mentor a team of two direct reports
  • Proven experience as a senior marketer managing a CRM, lifecycle, or customer marketing function
  • Natural obsession with insights and data, with the ability to translate analysis into strategic, actionable outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience with CRM platforms and their capabilities to deliver sophisticated one-to-one strategies
  • Confidence in leading and managing a team to achieve engagement goals
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder influencing skills across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to thrive in a rapid, dynamic environment where critical thinking and agility are essential

Join the Audience Engagement team at Nine Publishing, working with Australia’s most awarded newsrooms - The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and The Australian Financial Review - trusted by over 12.8 million Australians for brave, balanced, and unmissable journalism.

As the Engagement Marketing Lead, you will be critical in driving subscriber engagement and retention strategies for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times and Good Food. You'll work closely with product and editorial teams to strategically onboard, educate, and drive habits with readers, reinforcing the value of a subscription throughout the audience lifecycle and , ultimately ensuring our audiences are deeply engaged with our award-winning content.

This is a 12-month contract opportunity.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead and execute engagement initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Utilise data and insights to optimise the automated subscriber lifecycle program, including onboarding and engagement journeys.
