Job Summary
A Process Engineer at Western Digital is responsible for optimizing and improving manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance, and providing technical expertise to address process-related issues. This role involves working on WDMCL, SMD, PSC, Cassette Washer, OSA, or Auto titrator for yield, cost, quality, and pph improvement, and taking charge of customer feedback. The engineer will develop and improve cleaning processes, perform cost reduction activities, set quality indicators, and drive continuous improvement for current and new products.

- Align cleaning improvement activities with Manufacturing Engineering team objectives
- Execute cleaning cost saving activities to meet company target
- Sustain cleaning process by sustaining in process indicators
- Prepare technical reports and documentation (SMO, TECN & PECN)
- Lead Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) for cleaning process
- Possess a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Physics

Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing and improving manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance, and providing technical expertise to address process-related issues, often acting as a "right hand" to engineering leadership. A Process Engineer will be assigned technically to work on either WDMCL, SMD, PSC, Cassette Washer, OSA or Auto titrator for yield, cost, quality, pph Improvement etc, and take charge for any Customer Feedback related to the said processes. The assigned Roles and Responsibility may be changed depending on the organization business need.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and improve WDMCL, SMD, PSC, Cassette Washer or Auto titrator cleaning process for existing and new products.
- Perform media cleaning cost reduction activities.
- Set up quality indicators for WDMCL, SMD, PSC, Cassette Washer or Auto titrator process.
- Drive both PN1 and PN2 Media cleaning process development work.
- Continuous effort to execute cleaning improvement activities to meet organization goals and objectives for current and future new products.
- Execute and qualify new cleaning material such as filter, chemical and brush for glass cleaning machine to align with company goal of having 2nd source for all materials.
- Execute WDMCL, SMD, PSC, Cassette Washer or Auto titrator cleaning machine pph and utilization improvement activities.
- Align the cleaning improvement activities with Manufacturing Engineering team objectives of sustaining and improve media yield and quality.
- Execute cleaning cost saving activities to meet company target.
- Sustain cleaning process by sustaining in process indicators such as chemical concentration and media cleanliness particle counts.
- Prepare a technical report and documentation (SMO, TECN & PECN) to ensure a smooth implementation of cleaning process improvement.
- Leading Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) for cleaning process and execute improvement actions to improve the robustness of the cleaning process for manufacturing.
- Work with automation team to develop and design new cleaning tools.
- Preparing and updating Weekly Asia Cleaning Team Activities progress report.
- Participate in the weekly Cleaning Virtual Global Con call with GO, JO, Sz and Sarawak.
- Participate in daily yield improvement meeting.
- Set up auto system shutdown fixture to prevent the cleaning machine from producing bad quality parts.
- Continue to build up technician technical skill pertaining to cleaning process.
- Follow all safety and health rules
- Conduct technical sharing on the topics related to media cleaning.
- Work with ISO team to ensure organization practices and procedures are comply with ISO requirement.
- Work with EHS team to set up a safety fixture to prevent any accident in the workplace.
- Work with vendors and suppliers for new process and new materials development.
- Work with procurement/SQE team for cleaning material quality improvement and inventory control.
- Work closely with Process Engineers to improve product yield and troubleshoot process flow from root causes to process and equipment tuning.
- Work with cross functional teams to solve technical process pertaining to Harmony Defect Issues and meet Overall Yield target as set by YM and YE.
- Perform Yield Enhancement activities through Design of experiments and detailed defect characterization.
- Work with FA and Contamination team on cleaning defect feedback by customer (HDD) for Deep Process Analysis
- Early engagement with NPI and Development team on upcoming new product design.
- Provide High level Technical Reports and analysis on product quality excursions and provide immediate Corrective and Preventive actions.
