About the Role
This is a communications role, based in Heidelberg, which will assist the Springer Nature External Communications team. The role would report into the Director, External Communications, Research and Publishing Services based in the UK, but would be supported by the local team in Heidelberg.
Corporate Affairs plays a crucial role in supporting the business globally, working with authors and journalists to highlight our corporate messages in the media and strengthening our book brands through various media activities, events and coverage.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual with creative ideas and fresh thinking with a special focus on book PR. They will also demonstrate basic knowledge of the science sector and media relations.
Role Responsibilities
Support the Communications team to write and edit German and English-language press releases on books and corporate news
Assist distributing press releases and book review offers to international media, generating media coverage for content published in our books
Coordinate work assigned to freelancers
Coordinate with institution/university press offices/author on press activities
Respond to phone and email queries from journalists and press officers
Maintain and update media contacts and distribution lists
Monitor press coverage and collate cuttings, providing results to publishing staff
Update corporate websites by using content management systems
Prepare presentation slides
Handle office organization and administration
Other duties as required when supporting internal, external and social media teams
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Science or liberal arts degree
Excellent English-language skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent German-language skills (reading, writing, speaking)
Command of journalistic skills (researching, writing,) with the ability to handle a diverse array of topics
Communications experience, preferably within a global context
Knowledge of the international media landscape
Organised approach
Interest in current events and topics (social, political, scientific)
Excellent interpersonal skills
