Job Description

The Field Service Technician will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and optimize advanced communication systems for public safety customers in Central New York. This role involves continuous training, collaboration with various teams, and maintaining detailed documentation. The technician will work with RF and Broadband systems, ensuring peak performance and reliability for mission-critical operations.
Must have:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, focusing on trend analysis and comprehensive documentation.
  • Develop solutions for complex technical issues related to system maintenance, upgrades, and support.
  • Engage in continuous training on the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales to maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems.
  • Optimize and support complex communication systems and software applications.
  • Maintain, optimize, test, and document complex communication systems.
  • Provide weekly activity and accomplishment reports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of RF systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks), standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, including cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
  • Knowledge of wired communication systems, such as LAN and WAN.
  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communication systems, and networking equipment.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Strong self-management and interpersonal skills to work effectively with Motorola’s customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform duties with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to quickly solve customer problems in stressful situations.
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.
  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer.
  • Must reside in Central New York or be willing to commute to Public Safety customers located in Central New York.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.
  • Must be willing to travel 30% of the time as needed around central New York State.
  • 2+ years experience in LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking equipment or Military experience.

  • Security +, CompTIA, or a related certification is highly desirable.

Job Description

The Field Service Technician MUST live a commutable distance to Syracuse, New York. The Public Safety customers are located centrally in the state of New York.

  • Perform preventative maintenance, focusing on trend analysis and comprehensive documentation.
  • Develop solutions for complex technical issues related to system maintenance, upgrades, and support.
  • Engage in continuous training on the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales to maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems.
  • Optimize and support complex communication systems and software applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning of infrastructure, and performance optimization of RF and Broadband systems.
  • Maintain, optimize, test, and document complex communication systems.
  • Provide weekly activity and accomplishment reports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of RF systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks), standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.

Specific Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Security +, CompTIA, or a related certification is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, including cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
  • Knowledge of wired communication systems, such as LAN and WAN.
  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communication systems, and networking equipment.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

Basic Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking equipment or Military experience.
