Job Description

Yahoo Mail is seeking a Staff Architect to join its Digital Transform team, focusing on migrating the entire Mail Infrastructure and petabytes of data to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role involves leading architectural development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, impactful solutions leveraging GCP and Google Analytics 4 (GA4), and driving cost optimizations. The architect will also provide high-level oversight on portfolio decisions, guide engineering teams, and foster strategic relationships to align technical design with business objectives.
Must have:
  • Lead architectural development and migration of Mail Infrastructure to Google Cloud.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver scalable solutions leveraging GA4.
  • Design and implement Cloud-based solutions, with a strong emphasis on GCP.
  • Drive optimizations on Google cloud and reduce costs.
  • Provide high-level oversight on portfolio decisions.
  • Create and implement scalable solutions to complex business challenges.
  • Partner with Product Owners and Engineering Teams to align technical design.
  • Prototype innovative, cross-platform business solutions.
  • Guide Application and Infrastructure Architects.
  • Provide architectural consulting to engineering teams.
  • Foster strong, strategic relationships.
  • Stay actively engaged in both architectural and engineering activities.
  • 12+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on Java and modern backend technologies.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with Google cloud.
  • Experience moving a product to Google cloud and actively participated in migration.
  • 5+ years of solid understanding of database management (SQL/NoSQL).
  • Knowledge in Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
  • Proficiency in building highly available, performant systems, including distributed systems.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically about system design, scalability, and performance.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A balance of visionary thinking and pragmatic decision-making.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Architect to join our Digital Transform team in Yahoo Mail. In this role, you'll be responsible for shaping and leading the Digital transform strategy of moving to GCP and align with business objectives, technical architecture, and long-term goals. This position offers the chance to play a pivotal role in the design and development of innovative, scalable solutions

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architectural development and migration of entire Mail Infrastructure (and Petabytes of Data) to Google Cloud
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders—to define requirements and deliver scalable, impactful solutions leveraging Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
  • Design and implement Cloud-based solutions, with a strong emphasis on GCP (Google Cloud Platform), using industry best practices and design principles.
  • Drive optimizations on Google cloud and reduce costs, Review architectural designs to ensure solutions are consistent, flexible, cost-effective, and maintainable.
  • Provide high-level oversight on portfolio decisions, influencing both business and technical architecture roadmaps.
  • Create and implement scalable solutions to complex business challenges, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and methodologies.
  • Partner with Product Owners and Engineering Teams to align technical design with the product roadmap and business objectives.
  • Prototype innovative, cross-platform business solutions to evaluate new technologies.
  • Guide Application and Infrastructure Architects to ensure smooth development processes and timely releases.
  • Provide architectural consulting to engineering teams to maintain consistency, security, and flexibility in product design.
  • Foster strong, strategic relationships with product owners, vendors, and technology teams.
  • Stay actively engaged in both architectural and engineering activities, maintaining a hands-on approach to technology.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on Java and modern backend technologies
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with Google cloud
  • Experience moving a product to Google cloud and have actively participated in migration
  • 5+ years of solid understanding of database management (SQL/NoSQL), and the ability to query and analyze large datasets.
  • Knowledge in Google Analytics 4 (GA4), with the ability to analyze data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Proficiency in building highly available, performant systems, platforms including experience with distributed systems.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically about system design, scalability, and performance.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—enabling effective collaboration with diverse groups at all levels.
  • Bonus - Has one of the following GCP certifications: Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect
  • A balance of visionary thinking and pragmatic decision-making, considering both short-term and long-term business implications.

The compensation for this position ranges from $160,965.00 - $349,885.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
