Job Description

The Hardware Design Engineer will be a member of a team responsible for the development and maintenance of ADTRAN’s product family. This position involves full technical leadership across all phases of the product development cycle, including conceptualizing, prototyping, testing, perfecting designs, and introducing products into manufacturing. The role requires designing and debugging hardware, including Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) for high-speed communication products, and troubleshooting regulatory compliance failures.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with high-speed data buses, serializers, deserializers, signal integrity.
  • Experience with Ethernet and Passive Optical Networking.
  • Experience with implementation and validation of DDRx/LPDDRx, PCIex and embedded microcontrollers.
  • Experience with regulatory EMI/EMC compliance requirements for telecom equipment.
Must Have:
  • Design or assist in the design, development, debugging, and integration of hardware for ADTRAN’s product family.
  • Design or assist in the design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) for advanced, very high-speed communications products.
  • Troubleshoot regulatory compliance failures.
  • Assist others within engineering and tech support in debugging issues.
  • Provide input in determining the level of effort required for hardware and product features.
  • Work with software, mechanical and power supply teams to optimize design and architecture decisions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or Computer Engineering) required.
  • Strong communication skills needed to interface with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, technical writers, and others.

Job Summary

This position has full technical leadership of all aspects of a project in each phase of the product development cycle: conceptualizing, developing prototypes, testing, perfecting designs, and introduction into manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design or assist in the design, development, debugging, and integration of hardware for ADTRAN’s product family.
  • Design or assist in the design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) for advanced, very high-speed communications products.
  • Troubleshoot regulatory compliance failures.
  • Assist others within engineering and tech support in debugging issues.
  • Provide input in determining the level of effort required for hardware and product features requested from product management.
  • Work with software, mechanical and power supply teams to optimize design and architecture decisions.
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or Computer Engineering) required.
  • Strong communication skills needed to interface with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, technical writers, and others.
  • No travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Experience with high-speed data buses, serializers, deserializers, signal integrity preferred.
  • Experience with Ethernet and Passive Optical Networking
  • Experience with implementation and validation of DDRx/LPDDRx, PCIex and embedded microcontrollers.
  • Experience with regulatory EMI/EMC compliance requirements for telecom equipment is preferred.
