Job Description

As a Health & Safety Specialist at Philips Japan, you will ensure the highest standards of safety and compliance in our medical device health tech business. Leveraging your EHS expertise, you will enforce legal compliance, cultivate a strong safety culture, and promote employee well-being and environmental protection. This role involves understanding site-specific risks for medical device operations and implementing effective EHS measures.
Must have:
  • Confirm EHS compliance based on domestic and international laws (e.g., Industrial Safety and Health Act, ISO45001), create and submit related documents.
  • Monitor EHS-related KPIs, create and report management reviews.
  • Plan and implement EHS audits, analyze trends, propose and execute corrective actions.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents, plan and implement recurrence prevention measures.
  • Plan and implement EHS education/training for employees (legal compliance, emergency response, waste management, sustainability, etc.).
  • Manage health check-ups (regular, special, at hiring), specific health guidance, and stress checks.
  • Health management in cooperation with industrial physicians, follow-up for employees on leave, interview coordination.
  • Respond to crisis management events (emergencies, injury accidents, etc.) and support recovery.
  • Improve safety and environmental considerations in cooperation with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and external vendors.
  • 4+ years of practical experience in EHS-related work in manufacturing.
  • Strong motivation for safety improvement and continuous learning.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Native level Japanese.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English (business level preferred).
Good to have:
  • Experience in responding to crisis management events (emergencies, injury accidents, etc.).
  • Experience collaborating with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and external vendors.
  • Holder of Class 1 Health Officer qualification.
  • Holder of Disaster Prevention Manager qualification.

Job Summary:

At Philips Japan, we operate a health tech business centered on medical devices, where the highest standards of safety and compliance are required in environments handling patients' lives. This position will leverage expertise in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to ensure thorough legal compliance, foster a safety culture, and promote employee health and environmental protection. In sites involved in the transport, installation, and operation of medical devices, safety measures based on risk assessment are essential. We welcome individuals who can understand the characteristics of each site and plan and execute effective EHS measures.

Main Duties:

  • Confirm EHS compliance based on domestic and international laws (e.g., Industrial Safety and Health Act, ISO45001), create and submit related documents.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Practical experience in EHS-related work in manufacturing (4+ years).
  • Strong motivation for safety improvement and continuous learning attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork.
  • Japanese: Native level.
  • English: Reading and writing proficiency (business level preferred).

Welcome Qualifications/Experience:

  • Holder of one of the following qualifications:
  • Class 1 Health Officer

[Contract Period] No fixed term

[Probationary Period] Yes (generally 6 months from joining date)

[Work Location] Tokyo Head Office (Azabudai Hills)

[Working Hours] 9:00-17:30, Break time: Generally 12:00-13:00

[Holidays] Every Saturday (scheduled holiday) / Sunday (legal holiday), national holidays, New Year holidays (December 29 - January 4)

[Paid Leave] 20 days granted in the first year (varies by joining month)

Care Leave (10 days granted annually), Sick Leave, etc.

[Overtime Work] Flextime system

[Salary] 5.8 million JPY - 9 million JPY

[Bonus] 15% incentive

  • Incentive is paid once a year (every March). However, it varies depending on company performance, departmental performance, and individual evaluation.
  • Those who join mid-year will have their incentive calculated on a pro-rata basis for the eligible period.
