As an International Trade Coordinator in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, you will be a key member of the logistics team. Your primary role will be to ensure strict adherence to customs and foreign trade compliance across all company activities. This includes maintaining foreign trade programs and certifications, identifying cost-saving strategies, and collaborating with various departments to align commercial objectives with compliance. You will report directly to the Customs Region Leader, contributing to Wabtec's mission of safety and efficiency in the railway sector.

  • Collaborate with operational and management areas to propose strategies meeting business objectives while ensuring customs and foreign trade compliance.
  • Ensure prompt release of products at customs.
  • Identify tax exemption savings opportunities.
  • Verify correct tariff classification for imports/exports and compliance with non-tariff regulations.
  • Manage and establish processes for foreign trade service providers' activities.
  • Monitor legislative changes, evaluate impacts, communicate, and mitigate.
  • Supervise integration of import and export documentation files.
  • Register suppliers as sub-maquiladora with the Ministry of Economy.
  • Reconcile foreign trade information with Oracle modules (receipt, shipping, invoicing).
  • Ensure preservation and observance of foreign trade certifications and program requirements.
  • Submit legally required reports/notices/permits on time.
  • Attend internal and external foreign trade reviews/audits.
  • Communicate operational results (KPIs, OEA audit) to senior management.
  • Conduct basic foreign trade training by area for compliance adherence.

Who will you work with?

At Wabtec de México, San Luis Potosí Industrial Zone, we are leaders in the production of pneumatic brake equipment, which supplies a market of 45,000 railroad cars per year; under a maquiladora company work scheme, our annual exports are equivalent to an estimated 3,250 million pesos only in the state of San Luis Potosí.

Since 1869, Wabtec has continuously led the industry, constantly improving its design to meet safety and efficiency needs in the railway sector. As market leaders, 6 out of 10 freight cars built in Mexico, the United States, and Canada have Wabtec air brake systems proudly manufactured in San Luis Potosí.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the logistics team, in the position of International Trade Coordinator / International Trade Compliance, your main responsibilities will be to ensure the correct observance of customs and foreign trade compliance in all company activities. Maintain foreign trade programs and certifications. Identify savings strategies. Work together with the operational and management areas of the company to analyze and propose strategies that meet the business's commercial objectives while ensuring customs and foreign trade compliance.

This position will report directly to the Customs Region Leader.

What do we want to know about you?

The career requirements for this position are:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in International Trade, with at least 5 - 6 years of experience in its respective application.
  • Advanced knowledge of customs and foreign trade legislation
  • and experience in:
  • IMMEX Program, obtaining, fulfilling requirements and obligations, as well as program extensions. Administration of Annex 24, validation, and audits.
  • VAT certification, all modalities, obtaining, benefits, and obligations. Annex 30. OEA certification, extensive knowledge of the standards required by the company profile, notices, supply chain security audits.
  • Knowledge of free trade agreements, rules of origin, and experience in product qualification for TMEC.
  • Technical knowledge (and desirable experience) in product classification.
  • Experience in the analysis and obtaining of programs and permits (Prosec, Eighth Rule, Duty Drawback, NOMs, Automatic Notices, Semarnat Certificates, etc.)
  • Administration of customs agents and foreign trade service providers, evaluation and monitoring of their activities.
  • Knowledge of customs valuation and transfer pricing (desired).
  • Knowledge of customs entry audits and foreign trade audits.
  • Experience in special operations (V1, V5, F4).
  • Presentation of results (metrics) to businesses, detection of process deviations and generation of corrective actions, follow-up, and closure.
  • Administration and follow-up of projects/requirements.
  • Microsoft Office and Oracle.

What will your typical day be like?

  • Ensure prompt release of products at customs.
  • Identify savings opportunities through the application of tax exemption programs and request the document or program registration that allows its application.
  • Verify correct tariff classification for imports and exports. As well as compliance with non-tariff restrictions and regulations.
  • Administer and jointly establish processes for the proper performance of service providers' activities to ensure customs and foreign trade compliance. (Annex 24 provider, foreign trade activities provider, customs agents)
  • Monitor changes in legislation, evaluate impacts, communicate them to the company, and jointly establish actions to mitigate their impact.
  • Supervise the integration of import and export documentation files.
  • Registration of suppliers as sub-maquiladora before the Ministry of Economy.
  • Reconciliation of foreign trade information against what is registered in Oracle's receipt, shipping, and invoicing modules. To identify discrepancies and establish corrective actions, follow-up, and closure.
  • Ensure the preservation and observance of the requirements of the foreign trade certifications and programs held by the companies. Coordinating with different departments, generating evidence, executing audits, updating procedures, and implementing necessary actions.
  • Submit reports/notices/permits required by law in a timely manner to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Attend internal and external reviews/audits in foreign trade matters.
  • Communication of operational results (KPIs and OEA audit) with senior management.
  • Provide training on basic foreign trade concepts by area to ensure adherence to compliance (mainly Materials, Traffic and Logistics, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Taxes, Accounting).

What about the physical demands of the job?

The work is mainly performed in an office environment, but continuous interaction with production areas is important to ensure understanding of operational requirements, for which basic safety equipment must be used.
