In case of problems in driving channels, the system can perform a <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/en/#iso:std:iso:23793:-1:dis:ed-1:v1:en">Minimum Risk Maneuver</a> (MRM) instead of continuing towards the destination to reduce the risk of collision or vehicle instability. The research and engineering challenges of this project may include:&nbsp;</div><div><ul><li>Integration with the vehicle control subsystem to follow the motion plan in a robust way&nbsp;</li><li>Effective and efficient motion planning algorithms to reduce the risk, for example, by changing the speed, performing an evasive maneuver</li><li>Simple and effective sensor fusion algorithms&nbsp;</li><li>High-integrity implementation to reduce or mitigate faults&nbsp;</li></ul></div><div>Experimental method and assignment&nbsp;</div><div>To develop, test and validate ADS with redundant driving channels, we built a multi-channel ADS testbed, see our <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://community.nxp.com/t5/NXP-Tech-Blog/Daruma-Design-Pattern-for-Safe-and-Continuous-Automated-Driving/ba-p/1609514">blog post</a>. One of the channels in this setup will be a Minimum Risk Maneuver channel.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;The assignment can be broken down into the following steps:&nbsp;</div><div><ul><li>Study literature&nbsp;</li><li>Design MRM algorithms and prototype them in the <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_%28programming_language%29">Rust programming language</a>&nbsp;</li><li>Integrate and evaluate the MRM channel in the ADS testbed or a real vehicle&nbsp;</li><li>Document the findings in a technical report and presentation&nbsp;</li></ul></div>Throughout the project, you’ll participate in an agile development process, continuously disseminate your findings and hang out in a vibrant international crowd of engineers.&nbsp;<div>Your Profile</div></div><div><div><ul><li>Bachelors/ Masters (Computer Science, Control Systems or Electrical Engineering)&nbsp;</li><li>Familiarity with <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rust_%28programming_language%29">Rust</a> is highly appreciated, good software engineering skills (C++, Python)&nbsp;</li><li>Comfortable with GNU/Linux and the command line prompt&nbsp;</li><li>Familiar with <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathfinding">pathfinding</a> and control theory (A*, Dijkstra, PID, MPC)&nbsp;</li><li>Fluent in English</li><li>Enthusiasm for building autonomous machines&nbsp;</li></ul>Duration&nbsp; This is a full-time internship (40 hours per week) with a duration of 6 months or longer.
