Job Description

This internship focuses on the development of innovative polarizing screens based on metasurfaces for satellite telecommunications, specifically converting linear to circular polarization in RF millimeter bands. The intern will conduct technological watch, study periodic electromagnetic structures, design and synthesize innovative structures using tools like CST or Ansys HFSS, and write technical reports. The role requires a Bac+5 student in electromagnetism and antennas, with experience in EM simulation tools (CST/HFSS), scientific programming (Python/MATLAB), technical writing, and reading scientific articles in English. The position is for 6 months in Toulouse, France.

  • Knowledge of ADS would be appreciated.
Must Have:

  • Write technical and scientific reports.
  • Actively collaborate with the team by sharing ideas and knowledge.
  • Bac+5 degree in electromagnetism and antennas.
  • Experience with commercial electromagnetic simulation tools, such as CST (or HFSS).
  • Experience in scientific programming, particularly in Python (or MATLAB).
  • Experience in writing technical and scientific documents.
  • Experience in reading and understanding scientific articles in English.

Your daily life

The Toulouse site is responsible for the engineering of satellite systems, the design and production of payloads, as well as the development and qualification of ground segments. It integrates a research center and an industrial accelerator for start-ups and ventures.

This internship is part of the development of innovative polarizing screens, based on metasurfaces that convert linear polarization into circular polarization. These devices operate in RF millimeter bands, with applications in satellite telecommunications, particularly adapted to low orbits and wide incidence angles. You will join the antenna research and products department of Thales Alenia Space in Toulouse, within a dynamic team of six permanent employees and several PhD students, who work on technological advancements in antenna synthesis, ensuring compliance with standards.

Your main missions are:

  • Conduct technological watch and a state-of-the-art review on satellite antennas and polarization conversion.
  • Study periodic electromagnetic structures and their equivalent circuit models.
  • Design and synthesize innovative structures with tools like CST or Ansys HFSS.
  • Write technical reports and scientific documents.

Your profile

Do you want to get involved in applied research and innovation in the space domain?

Are you pursuing a Bac+5 degree in electromagnetism and antennas, and are you looking for a 6-month internship?

You have experience in:

  • commercial electromagnetic simulation tools, such as CST (or HFSS); knowledge of ADS would be appreciated
  • scientific programming, particularly in Python (or MATLAB)
  • writing technical and scientific documents
  • reading and understanding scientific articles in English
